Re: Ukraine
It isn't as nearly as sinister or organised as you might think. It is no worse than symbolism used by certain metal fans for example. I see a lot of similar nordic, Thor hammer, Vegvisir, Yggdrasil, skull imagery in the bushcrafting/prepper community too, right-leaning maybe, rather than full-on na...

Re: Ukraine
I've noticed a few instances of Ukrainian soldiers in news reports having far right/Nazi emblems on their uniforms. It's a shame, as it easily serves as propaganda for the Russians. A recent example of this is in a BBC news report from Kharkiv by Quentin Sommerville. His reports are excellent, and h...

Or more likely, it's some bullshit someone made up for twitter likes/follows. Like a lot of shit on that website.
"A group of professional people" It's like they weren't even trying to come up with something plausible.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
The one thing to recognise is that China has a zero-tolerance policy, so shuts down as soon as a few infections are recorded, but the point is we have BA2 running rife here, and zero real mitigations in place...just how bad will it get before action, and will that action be effective. I think zero ...

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
No...? Hong Kong is having an awful time atm because their elderly population has a weirdly low vaccination rate (something like 50% doubly vaccinated over the age of 70), and this is the first massive wave that they've had. China really needs to decide how it is going to act with this virus in the ...

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Will massively vary by country. The UK death toll is not far off the excess deaths, whereas in countries like Russia and India the numbers are waaay less reliable and probably add a large amount to the estimate.

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
Do you not have any lateral flow tests, Mantis? I was under the impression that you're not meant to take them when you're already showing symptoms. I've had a PCR arrive by post which I've just sent off. Slightly better today anyway at least. Nope, not true at all. If anything lateral flow tests ar...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
Do you not have any lateral flow tests, Mantis? I am currently covid positive as well. I caught it last week, probably on the train. I've seen many people coughing without a mask on so it was inevitable, really. I'm amazed that I lasted this long without getting it tbh. I have been getting trains an...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series
No, I didn't mean literally teleporting. The characters cross the world via horse/foot seemingly instantly, GoT style. Especially apparent when people go to Kaer Morhen which is reeeeeeeally far away from other stuff. As in, weeks of travel. And they get there and still haven't talked about the issu...

Re: Ukraine
I've got to reiterate - don't believe every tweet you see about this war. There is zero context to that footage, as with a lot of stuff that has been popping up. Same with the 'Ghost of Kyiv' stuff from before. BS gets spread around very quickly whilst the fog of war is still present. Great example ...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series
Agree with Sly, I was quite disappointed by Season 2. It felt like late stage Game of Thrones. Bad writing, characters acting weird (especially Yennefer, who acts like a child in the show), nonsense plot devices and characters teleporting across the world.
