There shouldn't be anything other than what is created by default when you first unpackage the phpbb installation folder, I'm not sure what may have prompted the config file to change. As far as I can recall this issue only started cropping up within the last year or so and I haven't made any modifications to the forum in that time.

No, higher (or lower, depends how you think of it) level than that – the web server configuration, not phpBB. Files in `/etc/apache` for Debian-based distros, for example.

Ah, well that makes sense, got you. That would be more problematic as the higher level file configurations are a total mess after I inherited them from Prey. There are a very significant amount of folders and subfolders which I have never touched due to not knowing what their purpose was beforehand. It's quite likely that something within there is forcing changes downward. Might be time I fished through all of it.

I'm just confused as to why this was never a problem when I first set the new domain up.

Ed: Though I've now been through the lot of it and can't see anything suspect.

Is anyone having any issues with the forum on their mobile?

I haven't been able to load up the forum on my phone for about the past four or five days (getting the old downloading issue), even though it's perfectly fine currently on my PC.

Yeah just had it there using Chrome on Android. I just went to a few different websites and came back and now it's working again. Happens every so often.

I cleared my (android) Firefox cache and that solved it.

I'm intermittently tickering with things to try and fix it.

Clearing your cache and restarting your browser is still the best short term fix for anyone who keeps running into the problem.

It almost seems to be occurring at completely random but increasing intervals now.

Dead again from 16:05 until at least 16:22. eVoL chimed in at 16:26 and it was working again.

Yeah it's been off and on all day for me. I'm about at the end of my tether now, it's driving me mad and I've no idea what else to do.

Sack off whatever incompetent hosting provider you're using, and move to somewhere that can actually serve a website 24h a day? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Tried to reply at 16:47 but it was dead again, this is really frustrating!

Edit: Only down for around a minute this time…

That was my nuclear option as I've only just recently forked out for another year with the current providers. I've also never tried to migrate an SQL database before so am apprehensive about trying it.

I do have a backup account running with Webhosting UK if needs be though. The current providers essentially said they didn't know what else could be causing it and have left me to deal with it. I may play around on the new domain for a bit to make sure they aren't terrible before I look into moving us over.

I'd be asking for a full refund, seeing as they can't provide the service you're paying for!

Who's currently hosting this place? Looks like Paragon aka GoDaddy? Ugh. Horrible company.

Eh, I've done that a million times if you need a hand.

Waiting for the server to come back up so I can post this reply…

It is Paragon via their TSO Host subsidiary, yeah.

I'll try and set some time aside at the weekend to properly research migrating the database across. I'm conscious that this issue seems to be getting worse so don't want to dilly dally too much.

Tentatively fixed. I'm going to purge all sessions and the forum cache and ask that everyone do the same for their browser. This is my last stab at it before I start looking into moving us to another server provider, though I am hopeful that this may have fixed it.
