Now that everything is on Spotify I gave 10,000 Days a listen and am quite enjoying it. Not sure why I skipped out on this album the first time around but it has very similar vibes to Lateralus.

Anyway, new song available today ahead of the new album release:

It's pretty gnarly!

I'm with you there, definitely a grower so will need to give it a couple more spins.

Sounding like Tool though :D

Really good tune, Mantis -- thanks for sharing.
Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

I don't get all the love for Tool. They're often turning up on "things you might like" lists, but I just don't.

The above song features that distinctive bass sound/style that's seemingly on every song they do, and the song just drones its way through a bunch of different sections with no crescendo or pay-off. The whole thing feels like an intro that should go somewhere, but doesn't. 2/10 won't listen again.

Edit: reminds me of watching The Blair Witch. Nothing's happening, nothing's happening, nothing's happening… oh, something's about to happen! *credits roll*

One of my favourite bands of the last few years Wormwood have released their latest album Nattarvet, sequel to Ghostlands: Wounds of a bleeding earth. Great heaving piles of melancholic black/folk metal, fucking love it. The album takes some work to get into but then pays you back in spades.

Quite enjoying this at the moment:

I haven't heard the last couple of songs yet but damn the rest of them are good. I love the instrumental stuff that just grooves in and out of different timings, I could listen to an album of just that to be honest.

Very impressive overall.

I have really tried to like Tool, I just don't get their hook. They are pleasant enough to listen to, but I find all their stuff very samey and it just doesn't draw me in.

I have to admit, I have been a bit addicted to Tool-listening this past week. Still not really sold on the new album, though. Pneuma is my favourite song, but the rest of the album isn't really doing it for me.

I think it is just lacking in heft - a distinct paucity of great crushing meaty riffs to detonate your spleen and drag your head into motion

Speaking of which, I've been listening to a bit of Lovecraft-themed doom metal, called...
