I'm with Achtung, the videos for the title on Steam didn't raise a flicker of interest from me. Hell it is gonna be free, I will grab it on Sly's and Alan's recommendation but without those I wouldn't have looked at it twice.

If you distilled it down you could say it’s Advance Wars Slay The Spire in a reductive way. It’s just such a pure strategy game. Very little random bullshit, if fact I think the only thing that’s random other than enemy placement is your buildings have a small chance of resisting damage. You always see exactly what the enemy is going to do which makes it as much a puzzle game as a strategy game. I’ve sat for ages staring at a turn utterly convinced I was done for only to finally notice a series of events I could trigger by pushing one, blocking another, smoking a tile etc.. and snatch victory. It’s wonderfully organic but almost feels like it was a crafted puzzle at times.
You really won’t get it from videos you pretty much have to play it and even then it might take a few games before it clicks. I remember seeing screens before it’s release and thinking it looked bad and with such small maps how can there be much strategy and verity but I’ve played it for so many hours over switch and PC unlocking everything and when it comes to iOS I’ll happily start from scratch again.
Might not be for you but I’d give it an hour or two and it might hook you.

It's a very tightly designed little action strategy puzzle game where all the mechanics are very simple but there are so many combinations of units and upgrades you can use that each playthrough always feels different.
Good music too.
It's a very different style of game to FTL and I'm not sure that I would choose it over the first game. But they are both excellent.
