Re: Currently Reading

I'm currently reading Saltwash by Andrew Michael Hurley. About halfway through and really enjoying it so far, although I couldn't really tell you why! Nothing has really happened but Hurley does an excellent job at writing characters. There is a big sense of mystery with what's going on in the book....

Re: Currently Reading

I'm reading The Fisherman by John Langan at the moment. I picked up The Fisherman on a whim on the back of this post and enjoyed it, quite a whiff of HP Lovecraft to it which I enjoyed. Ah great, glad you enjoyed it! Did you ever play Dredge? Quite coincidentally I was playing the game at the same ...

Re: I Just Watched (Films)

I watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles the other day. It's my favourite comedy of all time, I think. Not necessarily the *funniest*, but overall, it's just such a perfect film. Martin and Candy at their absolute best. And I know it's set at Thanksgiving, but it's still a Christmas movie to me.

Re: Currently Playing

Despite having an infinite backlog of games to play, certainly more than I can realistically play for the entire rest of my life, I decided to restart No Man's Sky the other week. I've already put 30 hours in to this playthrough and got 'further' than I've ever got before, my some margin. I have a t...

Re: Currently Reading

I'm reading The Fisherman by John Langan at the moment. Just over halfway through and it's really good. I've never been in to horror, but finding myself reading a lot more of it lately, and this, along with The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones are two of the best books I've read this ye...

Re: The gig thread

£40 for a shirt or hat though ffs! Yeah this is a new scam from venues, many of which (i.e. the ones owned by various large corporates, looking at you o2 ¬_¬) now insist on a 20% cut in merch sales, which has driven prices way up. I think it stinks, they wouldn't be making anything if the band were...

Wonder if they might have been able to finish it on time if they hadn't sacked all those workers for wanting to be in an union.

Re: Currently Reading

I'd fallen off reading for a long time. I had an OG Kindle which I used a lot ~15 years ago but it had no built in light so wasn't much use in bed. We went to Spain in May and I thought I'd treat myself to a new Kindle (with a built in light, no less!) and haven't stopped reading since! I've read 14...

Re: Switch & Nintendo News/Discussion

Yeah you can switch between "quality" which is supposedly locked at 30fps and is just as bad as the 30fps mode on the big consoles. Performance mode offers 40fps but feels a lot smoother and there is zero noticeable difference in visuals between the two modes. You can also turn HDR on or off. I play...

Re: Switch & Nintendo News/Discussion

Tried out Witcher 3, which I bought on sale for the original Switch ages ago, mostly out of amazement that it would run at all. The difference on Switch 2 is astounding - not quite Series S quality, but it looks great at a locked 30fps and is no longer the blurry, laggy splotch that Switch 1 provid...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

We started watching FROM last week and are already halfway through season two. Really enjoying it so far. Shades of Lost and The Leftovers, which are probably my two all time favourite shows, but this is becoming a contender if it stays strong.

Re: General Gaming News

One of my favourite parts of that game was rebuilding the roads to make deliveries between the big depots really easy. It was so satisfying getting a truck and just loading it to max with deliveries along the route. Also building a comprehensive zip line network through the snowy mountain areas - es...
