Re: Tech assistance required!

Hopefully it stands the test of use...Assuming that it was something to do with the RAM, why would RAM suddenly need reseating? Heat expansion used to be the reason. As the PC heats and cools during use and downtime, the RAM can incrementally creep out of the correct alignment. Most mobos have clip...

Re: Tech assistance required!

Were the sticks re-seated in the same slots as before? I had an issue earlier this year with an old PC refurb where it was randomly crashing, and it ended with one of the RAM slots bursting into flame . I think it was the DDR controller at fault, though. It’s reseated in the same one. I think I’ll ...

Re: Podcasts

My favourite podcast at the moment is Fall of Civilisations. Each episode focuses on a bygone civilisation and charts its rise and fall. Some of them are feature length (generally they are around two hours a piece, but the longest is >four hours), but really listenable and accessible.

Re: Tech assistance required!

I am posting from my (previously bricked) PC! I'm unsure what the problem was really. I unplugged everything again and replugged everything in, and it seems to have regained life. Hopefully it stands the test of use...Assuming that it was something to do with the RAM, why would RAM suddenly need res...

Re: Tech assistance required!

Do you have 2 strips? If so, remove one and test, then swap to see if both have gone...check the channel orientation for your mobo, as to which slot to use just one in. RAM posts before GFX so if it is faulty memory you wouldn't get video. But would I get lights on my keyboard and mouse? I only hav...

Re: Tech assistance required!

Okay bit of an update. I’m now getting some action. I disconnected and reconnected some stuff and now I’m getting one long beep and two short, which the internet informs me is a RAM error. So my question now is, could it have always been a RAM error, or have I probably fucked my RAM faffing about wi...

Re: Tech assistance required!

What is the model of the Mobo? It should have some form of POST beep codes/led's to inform you of where in the chain the problem might be. A quick google suggests this is the beep that it makes when you turn it on? It doesn’t beep at all currently. It’s probably worth mentioning that the computer h...

Tech assistance required!

Alright Gents let’s see if one of you can help because I’m at my wit’s end. Computer was working fine. About a week ago I had a few crashes, nothing too serious. Earlier I booted it up, and it crashed again. Reset it, now nothing loads. The computer turns on, fans are whirring, but nothing else, no ...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

The theory went that when they got Star Wars, they wanted to wrap GoT up quicky, doesn't it?

Doesn't really explain why it's wrapped up so poorly though. I don't get how it could drop off such a cliff and anybody could go 'Yep, nailed it'.

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

House of the Dragon is surprisingly decent, especially compared to the last season of GoT. Worth a watch, certainly. I really enjoyed it. Also, not to beat a really old well-beaten drum, but the final season (or final half of the final season in particular) of Game of Thrones. Wow - utterly terrible.

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

I've enjoyed Mythic Quest overall, yeah. Agree about Jo, bit of a shit character but bearable. I really enjoyed the depiction of Poppy getting into the zone, fingers flying, everything's awesome… then someone interrupts. I was like that Leo DiCaprio pointing meme, it's so true. Jo starts season one...

Re: The Room 102 thread - for things you love or just having a bloody good praise!

Bit general but When things start to go right. Got a huge reno job on the house I bought (unintentionally), and getting the tradespeople I require has been a huge pain in the arse with lead times etc. and it doesn't help that I've procrastinated. Nevertheless, I have a decorator lined up, and someon...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Mythic Quest

It's no Always Sunny, but it's enjoyable enough. There's a few episodes in particular that I think are excellent
Spoiler
Dark Against Death in particular I thought was good and quite emotional, but I did watch it extremely hungover
, but I don't think it's groundbreaking or anything.
