Re: General Gaming News

No official mod support, though inevitably there are already tonnes of mods. I only tended to dabble with UI mods in Oblivion, so now that's been sorted in the remaster I'm quite happy with the vanilla game.

Re: General Gaming News

It's a moot point for me as I'm not expecting to play a huge amount of this, I just thought it was interesting from a game preservation / remake quality standpoint. How far should a developer go in modernising a game for an audience used to contemporary design philosophies, and does that stop it be...

Re: General Gaming News

I like how they've added a fairly generous health replenishment outside of combat. It makes sense, as I'd usually just use the wait function to restore health instead. Horses are still as useless as ever, though. In fact they've made them slightly worse, as you can only use them in third-person now....

Re: General Gaming News

Some thoughts after the first hour: - It's really quite pretty, especially once you get outdoors. The soundscape is excellent too. - Combat feels familiar but refined - it's faster, with more impact. - One crash, due to UE5 apparently. Hopefully not a sign of things to come. - There are QoL improvem...

Re: General Gaming News

Oblivion was the first ES game I played (I played Morrowind afterwards, having enjoyed it), and honestly I remember having a lot more fun playing it than I did Skyrim, even if objectively it's not as good. I've always held Oblivion and Skyrim in roughly equal estimation, for different reasons (Morr...

120GB on PC. That's sounds like more than a simple remaster.
It's here! Like... now! :o

And it looks very, very good.

Re: Aaand, In Other News...

I can't help but think that any intelligent alien civilisation would look at humanity with horror. We only know how to destroy and spend most of our efforts finding new and novel ways of destroying one another. It's telling that some of the most well-documented and evidenced UAP cases (i.e. those w...

Re: Aaand, In Other News...

It is exciting news... BUT... (mini-rant time, I apologise in advance) I find it incredibly frustrating that for the last few years we've been given extensive witness testimony (some under oath) and corroborating evidence that the US and likely other nations are well aware of a non-human intelligenc...

Re: Aaand, In Other News...

I hope it genuinely is uncensored and immediately gets flooded with people posting terrorist videos, animal porn and a raft of other flagrantly illegal content that she is then responsible for either hosting or removing.

Re: Aaand, In Other News...

It reads like something out of Cyberpunk, in the worst possible way.

Meanwhile, Liz Truss has a new plan that couldn't possibly backfire in any way whatsoever:

Re: General Gaming News

Yeah, they spent years improving the Creation engine after Fallout 4 for use in Starfield. UE5 still looks much prettier though.

Re: General Gaming News

Agreed, I've banged on about that plenty of times before. ;) But it looks like they've managed something significant here - possibly a compatability layer which retains the Creation engine in terms of functionality but presents the world in UE5. If that's possible, I don't see why they couldn't do s...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

Did not have a restful night. Shortly after going to sleep, I was woken by a distressingly loud groaning noise like structural movement, followed by an even louder bang. I couldn't place where it was coming from, so ignored it and went back to sleep. About 20 minutes later it happened again. I got u...

Re: General Gaming News

There are two intriguing details that appear to be accurate from the leaks: - Bethesda have outsourced it - It’s in UE5 The latter is surely proof of concept that ES6 could work in UE5, presumably with some Creation gubbins in the back end. Can’t wait to see what the results are like. Oh, and appare...
