Re: Adventures in 3D printing

Behold! A tiny mug! https://i.imgur.com/mlatbwP.jpg This is the first object I've ever really modeled from scratch. I've gone from having basically no 3D modeling experience (I'm not really counting the token holder, given that it was created by bashing cubes together with the software equivalent of...

Re: Adventures in 3D printing

Message from mission-critical craft; they've been printed! https://i.imgur.com/H05uald.jpg Learning point for today; make sure when using the slicing software that the model doesn't intersect with the print bed. The second TIE did this and has lost the rear 0.5mm or so of the wings. I must say thes...

That is in fact at least the second time that joke has been referenced in three pages.

Re: Adventures in 3D printing

I don't have a lot to contribute to this thread as it's entirely outside my sphere of knowledge or experience, but I'm very impressed Raid :) In fairness, I've only really moved a handful of files around and pressed some buttons, the hard bit (the 3D model designing) has been done for me. I'm a cou...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

https://i.imgur.com/UUppMj2.png This is an advert I saw on the side of a Eurogamer page a few minutes ago. It's from a company called Roli, who make interesting midi instruments. If you click on it, it takes you to a Kickstarter page for the item being advertised at 40% off. The discount, it transp...

Re: Adventures in 3D printing

https://i.imgur.com/pYPSHMi.jpg I honestly have no idea what this stuff is used for outside of cleaning up resin, but why do I get the feeling I'm on some sort of government watch list now? I decided to reprint the Missile Boat at a slightly larger size. Wookiepedia says it should be slightly longe...

Re: Adventures in 3D printing

There we go.

I get the feeling the scaling's a little off, but the model's nice.

Re: Adventures in 3D printing

The Missile Boat didn't work after two attempts. I didn't know what happened the first time, but it didn't stick to the build plate, so all that happened was I got a congealed lump of resin on the transparent bottom of the resin tank. I cleaned everything and tried it again with the same file (just ...

Re: Adventures in 3D printing

So, yeah, it did pretty well for a first attempt. https://i.imgur.com/YIRkoTm.jpg The detail is pretty great, even the barrels in the laser cannons on the wing tips are hollow, and the solar panel detail is really crisp. The only negative is that at some point during the print, the bed (a base layer...

Re: Adventures in 3D printing

It's not really difficult to clear up after, just a bit time consuming. It's still a bit of a ballache, but you just can't get this sort of result with other printers in this price range.

Adventures in 3D printing

So a couple of years ago I bought a 3D printer, another entry in the startlingly long line of expensive things I've bought and then never used enough to warrant their price tag. It was an XYZ Junior, a model that any 3D printing enthusiast would tell you to avoid (more for the silly DRM functions ba...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

- People bimbling around a busy town centre who stop dead in their tracks to look at an especially noteworthy pigeon or similar. For me it's people who stop dead to have a conversation with someone and don't have the decency to move out of the way of other pedestrian traffic. It's especially bad wh...

Re: The F1 thread

I don't think Honda are the problem with Red Bull, I think they've just built a car below their usual standard this year. The Sky pundits have said that it doesn't look as settled in the corners as in previous years, and I don't recall hearing Christian or Max saying they have a power deficit (somet...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

Scrambler bikes; or more specifically the little arseholes that ride them. I live next to a fairly wide river. On the other side of this river is a grassy bank, and on that grassy bank ride a handful of kids with said bikes. They are so loud that the first time I heard them I thought they were ridin...
