Re: General Film News

Those are solid shouts I suppose, although I did watch the Kurt Russell The Thing for the first time last year and really didn't think much of it (beyond the incredible practical effects anyway), and I don't think I even realised The Fly was a remake. I forget sometimes that remakes aren't really a ...

Re: General Film News

It would be nice for one of these remake projects to actually produce a film that was superior to the original. I'm really struggling trying to think of a single one that worked.

Re: General Film News

To be honest, I can actually see Liam Neeson suiting the role. Nielson was a serious actor that happened to be able to do deadpan perfectly. Neeson would just have to prove he could do it too. But it's the script that would be the issue; The Naked Gun and Police Squad had some of the tightest comic ...

Re: General Film News

I'd put money on the notion that The Naked Gun needs a remake will be funnier than any joke they write for said remake.

The Naked Gun is one the finest comedy films ever made, and it's unbelievable arrogance on behalf of a studio to think that any new version could come close.

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

certainly not a patch on Band of Brothers, but then what is? I haven't tried MotA yet, but I ran out of steam halfway through The Pacific, and in all honesty I don't hold BoB in especially high regard either. I mean I recognise that it's an excellent series, but there's just something about the pre...

Re: Gaming laptops and fan noise

I don't think there's a catch-all rule for these things; some laptops are just packaged better than others. I've had non-gaming laptops that were incapable of being powered on for more than 5 minutes without the fans audibly kicking in. Maybe try reading reviews of your specific model, see if anyone...

Re: General Film News

Given how good the first one was, I'd give it the benefit of the doubt if I thought the musical aspects were an issue, but for me they're not. I don't think it's particularly unusual for characters portrayed with severe mental illnesses to imagine themselves singing and dancing, it's probably been d...

Re: Star Wars: Outlaws

This is launching on 30th August, and there's a story trailer to whet the appetite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NledFrN47u4 I'm still hesitant to get excited for it if I'm honest. It looks like it's a fairly lavish production, but nothing in the actual gameplay has really grabbed my interest. Al...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

My washing machine managed to completely turn itself off this morning with a drum-load and without draining. Firstly, washing machines are unbelievably awkward to drain without power, to the point where all of the skirting boards around the damned thing are now warped from water damage. I couldn't e...

Re: Currently Playing

I'm just hoping it gets a PC release sooner rather than later. I also finished a game I very much enjoyed over the weekend; Jedi Survivor . It's a better game than its predecessor, and extremely generous in terms of content (I think I clocked up about 55 hours in total, I'd hunted down 95% of the co...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

whining about dog turds, God, this. Like, I get it, nobody wants to have to pick up excrement that has nothing to do with them, and having someone else's pet use their garden as a toilet is frustrating. But just what in the hell do they think they're going to achieve by posting photos of it?! Do th...

Perhaps. If I went outside and heard choral Latin, I'd maybe understand, but honestly I just think it's cute. I don't know why some people have such a problem with rats when they're clearly just existing.

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

Local facebook groups are a blessing and a massive curse. I live on an estate that borders farmland, and this evening one of the residents posted this image: https://i.imgur.com/KfhnlUh.png There's been talk of phoning the council on Monday to request pest-control deal with it. Just what the hell ar...
