Re: Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker - the last film in the saga

Yeah, I get that. I was just hoping that they would give me something to get excited about after the mess of the last few films (including the spin-offs I mean). At the moment I really would like to be enthusiastic about a Star Wars film (and I'm usually a pretty big fan of JJ Abrams) but they've ju...

Re: Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker - the last film in the saga

It just seems to be lots of setup pretty visuals without anything else to go with it. It's a 2 minute trailer... what exactly were you expecting? Some indication about what the hell the story is about rather than some vague Palpatine wet dream. The point at which a load of people ride Space Alien H...

Re: Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker - the last film in the saga

Killed any interest I had remaining for the last film. Cowboys riding across a Star Destroyer for whatever reason is just peak ridiculous. It just seems to be lots of setup pretty visuals without anything else to go with it. I'll download a copy when the screeners go out for award season next year a...

Re: YouTube channels

Film and TV: Now you see it - A good channel looking at aspects of film making; cinematography, editing, directing, script writing, casting, etc. The nerdwriter - Mostly film and TV related, but quite broad; covering things such as why certain actors are so great, how music influences the experience...

I loved that game. I bet it's nowhere near as good as I remember... but that's not going to stop me checking it out again.

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

The overabundance of emojis in professional communications. There's this weird phenomenon today where, despite being invented about TWENTY YEARS AGO when the likes of MSN Messenger were popular in the pre-Facebook era -- when you'd expect to see a bit of over-use because it's new -- there's a new g...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

I'm always happy to be told I've got a parcel coming through DPD. They give you a delivery estimate window, they tell you what number you are on the driver's run sheet, and tell you what number they're currently on. Really transparent, and they're really good at hitting their estimates. Great stuff...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

Situations that make you look like a dick when, technically, you've done nothing wrong. A colleague was on holiday yesterday, which coincided with a planned day of meetings from hell, so naturally my greeting this morning was a coy "How was your strategically-timed day off?", with full Monty Python...

Re: I Just Watched (Films)

I've only seen the first film and that was definitely style over substance so I can only imagine the depths plumbed by the third film.

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

The best I could find during my limited etymological search last night was that it was popular in the mid-1900s in the US so it's certainly been around a while.

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

Although I have no evidence to support it, I can imagine that "picking up the shopping/groceries/supplies/whatever" stems from the time when wealthy families had servants to sort out everything for them, so you would have someone who went to pick up [item] and then the actual payment would happen at...

Re: The Room 102 thread - for things you love or just having a bloody good praise!

- Films In Concert. I usually go to the Royal Albert Hall once or twice a year for one of these; they put up a huge screen and play a film with the soundtrack being played live by an orchestra. Every single event I've been to has been absolutely fantastic, starting with Fellowship of the Ring back ...
