Re: Visit to York - ideas?

Late to the party here. I lived in York for four years, know it relatively well?

If you give me an idea what you want from it (and it's not too late) I can give you a good idea.

I don't know where I got the idea from that The Shield aired in 1999. Live and you learn.
The difference is obvious having watched some more - not once do you root for the criminals in The Shield.

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

The Shield is a very good show, funnily enough we were debating the merits of it against The Wire in our TGA co-op gaming chat the other night on Discord. For me while it is very good, it isn't quite at the same level as The Wire, but then The Wire is my favourite show of all time. Initially when I...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Watching The Shield - it's consistently ranked as up there with The Wire, The Sopranos etc., so thought it was about time I gave it a go.

It's good and I'm enjoying it, but it isn't as high as that. It's also probably the cop show with the most grim crimes of all shows.

Re: Twitter, the shitshow that keeps on delivering

Good thread that helps tie it all together: https://twitter.com/Esqueer_/status/1608579412588650496 This isn't true. He'd posted that he was in Romania on Christmas Day - he'd need to swipe his passport to get into the country, so they'd know one way or the other he was there. One way or the other,...

Re: Currently Reading

Just finished watching The Young Team by Graeme Armstrong. Excellent, gripping and very readable. And also very grim.

Re: Currently Playing

So, I’ve been playing Hitman 2, and really enjoying it. Burned through a lot in one day and only have the last level left to do (struggling a lot with it to be fair). Is it just me or is the game…short? I know the levels are deep in detail and replayable but the arc just doesn’t seem very long at all.

Nothing revolutionary in the post:

Only Fools and Horses

Some pretty questionable language used at times, but otherwise I've really enjoyed watching them through after about ten years.

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

It's been out for a few months, but just started watching The Bear on Disney+, early days but first impressions are very good. It's about a renowned chef who returns to his hometown after his brother dies to try to revive his flagging family deli shop, and everything about it was top quality. Recom...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Cobra Kai season 5 Well, that was vastly disappointing. What in god's name happened to the level of acting on display? Why did they feel the need to insert crappy punchy/emotional music in every part of every scene? Where did all the fun rivalries go? How the bloody hell can you reintroduce Mike 'B...

Re: Currently Reading

So I finally got around to finishing the First Law trilogy 20-odd years after starting it, and, much as I enjoyed them as a whole, I'm left a little cold by the ending, and I don't mean that I've inadvertently touched the Other Side. The finale leaves almost every character's story unfinished, and ...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Cobra Kai season 5 I’ve stopped caring whether this is actually good from a critical standpoint because it’s such pure, shameless entertainment that I’d feel churlish to nitpick at it. I’ve rattled through this season at lightning speed and I enjoyed it more than season 4, which I thought was a bit...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

loved Gomorrah. Every season was slightly worse than the one preceeding it but even series 5 was excellent. Like all shows it became deritive. It should have ended at 4. First two are excellent, no doubt. Dropped a bit in the third but still good. Watched the first few of four earlier and enjoyed t...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

I own it but have not read it yet - it is in the pile and the next on my list. Just watched the final episode of Season 3. I’m not really sure whether to keep watching. I’ve enjoyed the first 3, but Ciro was the show after Pietro’s death. As enjoyable as I’ve found it, there’s basically only three ...
