Re: Currently Playing

I generally prefer Eternal's gameplay (although there's really not much between them, I just think Eternal's really stingy ammo reserves force the gameplay loop and it flows a little better as a result), but the setting, story and overall presentation of 2016 were better.

Re: Currently Playing

Parrying was an example, I was just meaning anything that needs that type of timing, it also applies to dodging or rolling through attacks. I just don't have the reaction times to do it these days, and they end up as tedious slogs of retrying.

Re: Currently Playing

Doom Eternal I don't think I've ever seen a comment from someone who actually likes the Marauder fights. They're not quite game-ruining, but they really kill the game's pace, and the pace is one of the game's best features. It feels like the devs wanted to put an element of Dark Souls or its ilk in...

Re: Suicide Squad: Kill the Rocksteady Legacy

A minor game design choice that's always bugged me; characters that fire a grappling hook into the sky (ie: off the top of the screen) to swing around, but without there being a sensible thing for that grappling hook to attach to. I think in this they're explaining that away with there being some so...

Re: Suicide Squad: Kill the Rocksteady Legacy

Was this always designed to appeal to the arcade hero-shooter / MOBA crowd or have they bolted that stuff on recently? I always assumed it was going to be a co-op Arkham-style game. Either way, the on-screen score counter and obvious loot crates mean I won't be bothering (although as the Arkham game...

Re: General Film News

I'm pretty sure that was the plot of season 2.

Re: General Film News

I don't tend to like it when shows end with a film, as I rarely think two hours is enough time to close all of the plot threads that lead up to that point, and they inevitably feel rushed. I think writers try to shoehorn in the endings they'd originally planned and they tend to be unsatisfying as a ...

Re: General TV News

Netflix's Three Body Problem adaptation is looking pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mogSbMD6EcY I know next to nothing about the book. I keep seeing it recommended in "what sci-fi should I read" discussions, but those posts are usually accompanied by people saying they just didn't unders...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

The Bear I tried the first episode last night, and the stress and tension made for fairly unpleasant watching, which to its credit was presumably what they were going for and quite masterfully done. The shot-reverse-shot with the clearly meaningful chefs knife on the floor was remarkably hard-hitti...

Re: I Just Watched (Films)

I think M:I films have always had at least one big set-piece, which in the more recent ones has been the Big Stunt. The first film had a helicopter flying through the Channel Tunnel, which was of course CGI, but nowadays they'd probably work out a way of doing it for real. Gimmicky or not, they're u...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

I think legally they'd be in a poor spot if they suddenly added adverts to a one-off item that you may have purchased years earlier, and they'd undoubtedly open themselves up to probably millions of pounds worth of refunds. I'd be very surprised if they were added to purchased content, especially gi...

Re: VR!

It's exactly the same in the app as it is in the headset, at least partially because I think the transaction happens in the app anyway. There was some pretty big news for VR last night; the UEVR injector from Praydog was released, for free. It's a mod that adds VR capabilities to every Unreal Engine...

It didn't occur to me until after our session that I'd started doing Cloud Strife's victory animation with my golf stick.

Re: VR!

I'd gone and bought it before I thought to ask for a referral link  Lovely little game. Snowy and I played a round earlier. I've bought the handful of courses that are on sale individually. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Upside Town and Shangri-La are only 79p each right now. Out of interest, ha...

Is it just called Mini Golf? There are quite a few mini golf games to choose from.
