Re: Currently Reading

Aye, I'm beginning to wish I'd read the books more often over the last 20 years. It's as if my notion of the characters had been wholly replaced by the film versions. I'm glad to be refilling my mind with the whole picture again. Still love the movies though. Currently coming to the end of Two Tower...

Re: Witcher author sues CDPR

Does seem a bit bizarre. Perhaps there's an ulterior motive behind it and he knows full well it doesn't stand a chance of being successful in court. Maybe he's hoping for an out-of-court goodwill gesture from CDPR, and his lawyers figure it's worth an attempt. Although, his book sales must have seri...

Re: The F1 thread

Yeah, it makes sense to me. If it had been early in the season I'm sure they would have switched back, but with a small number of races left and a drivers championship on the line I think every single team out there would have done exactly the same thing. Hamilton is due some bad luck, so even with ...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Interesting point. The only problem I had with Sopranos is how I could never root for a single main character, even Tony. Brilliantly acted and they all had personality, but every minute of every episode I was sort of thinking "I literally don't differentiate any of these murdering scum with cockroa...

Re: The Apprentice 2018

Not for me; I definitely got a sense of there being a difference when it came to my perception of their overall capability and how they generally came across in a professional manner. Still had the odd buffoon, but they carried themselves differently I think. I've watched several of the early episod...

Re: The Apprentice 2018

Yep, at its heart it has a real-world aspect to it - especially in terms of how one should go about interacting with others to meet an agreeable solution to things. (Something which many of the candidates fail spectacularly at doing!) Which rather sets it apart from other regular reality TV, despite...

The Apprentice 2018

It's that time again! Where we get to meet the latest bunch of reality TV hopefuls, er, I mean entrepreneurs. Starts next Wednesday... They can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/15Lwk4N39qBZY2qgC9gWpd1/meet-the-candidates "There’s no need to watch your back when I’m already two...

Re: Currently Reading

Currently reading The Two Towers. I just love the grandiose exchanges between everyone, like Tolkien is documenting a mythical retelling shortly after the event - as if he is filling in the gaps regarding dialogue, trying to do justice to these legends. It almost comes across like a doctrine from an...

Re: The H.P. Lovecraft Reading Club

Sorry, I'm thoroughly embedded within my Tolkien odyssey right now - and I don't like to switch books/authors halfway through, otherwise I'd probably join in a bit more.

I'm sure Mantis/Snowy will report back in at some point.

Re: The 'I Just Bought' Thread - Normal Edition

It's an 'Anton Leather Recliner' - I got it for £280 new. There's a few online places that sell it around the same price (I got it from Dunelm).

You can spend a fortune on some leather recliners, so I'm really happy how comfy and solid this is at the price.

Re: The 'I Just Bought' Thread - Normal Edition

Decided I needed a new comfy chair for reading & watching TV, so got this leather recliner. Tried it out first of course. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71ewg5FLggL._SY355_.jpg My back feels better already having used it for a week or so now. Can be a bit too comfy sometimes though...

Re: PlayStation Classic

Brings back memories of late 1995 when I bought the first Playstation. It replaced my Amiga 600 (sniff) and served me well for a couple of years before I discovered the world of PC gaming.

My first and last console. Most notable thing about it was introducing me to Doom.
