Re: Star Trek: Picard

Yep, I liked Discovery season 1 for what it was, but season 2 was a train wreck and only served to show a focus on everything about season 1 that I didn't like. I'd hope that the reverence for the Picard character is what's driving this new series, rather than him just being a bankable name. Much as...

Re: Star Trek: Picard

Yeah, Discovery has knocked my confidence in CBS' intentions for the brand. If this turns out to be another CGI-heavy, thoughtless explodeathon, I think I'll have to call time on what was a formative franchise for me.

Star Trek: Picard

Yes, that is apparently what they're calling it. The first teaser for this has been released. Don't get too excited, or do depending on what you thought of Discovery; explosions are refreshingly absent.

Re: Celebs are still dropping off....

I wasn't around for Lauda's F1 career, but his stint as major figurehead for the Mercedes team over the last decade certainly made me appreciate his forthright attitude and sense of humour. At the same time, it's somewhat amazing that a man given the last rites in 1976 has managed to live such a lon...

Re: End of thrones prediction sweepstakes!

I think my two points (three if you accept that Hotpie and Drogon opened their barbecue restaurant; nothing in the show suggests it was wrong) makes me qualified to be King Mantis' Hand.

Re: I Just Watched (Films)

Detective Pikachu Given how commercialised the Pokemon franchise is, it's a bit amazing that this feels like it was made by people who absolutely love the source material rather than just attempting to squeeze every penny out of the property. There's very little hand-holding in this; Pokemon exist,...

Re: Switch & Nintendo News/Discussion

It sounds like a pretty generous package, with 100 levels designed in-house by Nintendo in the single-player mode alone. It sounds like there's a much more robust way of finding levels from other makers too. I didn't bother getting the Wii U game because I didn't think creating my own levels would k...

Re: RAGE 2 [PC, PS4, XBone] - May 14th 2019

The Eurogamer video team did a 90 minute livestream of this yesterday, starting from the very beginning, and it looked pretty tedious to me. None of that humour the trailer was suggesting would be a significant part of the experience was on display. They *were* playing with a gamepad, which tends to...

Re: Game of Thrones S8 (Here be spoilers)

It was shit but I think Denny was the one thing they did right. From day one she’s been a petulant child with a god complex. This is the logical resolution. Handled piss poor sure but I never really thought it would go much different when she got to Westeros. Viserys was the petulant child with a g...

Re: Game of Thrones S8 (Here be spoilers)

Frankly it looked like it was several shots stitched together via the screen-covering dust clouds, as if they were trying to replicate the success they'd had with the uninterrupted sequence during the Battle of the Bastards.

Suffice to say I am not having the best of weeks thus far. I'll attend if everyone's here, but I might be a bit quiet tonight.

Re: Game of Thrones S8 (Here be spoilers)

I hasten to add that I did enjoy it, for what it was. I enjoyed last week's too. I seem to have a knack for putting my disappointment aside and just enjoying what's on offer these days.
