Re: Antivirus and AntiSpyware Software
Yup, I don't think many people buy antivirus software anymore. I know I haven't bought any for years. I just use Windows Defender and occasionally will do a Malwarebytes scan.

Re: The Big Backup
You can get USB sticks that are much bigger than blu rays. I have a 128 GB one for example.

You're making me want to buy a Quest 2. Sigh.

Well we're all glad you're still with us. Hopefully you can at least be mostly rid of her soon.

Re: Mass Effect HD remaster in the works?
Thank fuck for that. I had exactly the same reaction as Paul when I saw the price. I know there are 3 games, but they are all quite old now and definitely not worth £55 for a small graphics upgrade, especially when you already own all of them.

Re: New PC Upgrade 2020 into 2021
There are zero issues with installing Steam games on other drives. In Steam you can just make a new library on each drive very easily. I have 4! Bear in mind that those power numbers are for the entire system, not just the processor. Sure, the processor is being pushed with Blender, but the rest sti...

Neth, 4 TB drives are fairly normal nowadays and work just as well. Definitely worth it if you need decent amounts of storage.

Re: Upgrade Time
Nice choices. If the Define 7 is anything like my Define R5, then it'll be nice to build in! Also nice and quiet because of the front panel that can close. It obviously affects thermals a little, but still should be fine.

Re: New PC Upgrade 2020 into 2021
As far as I can tell, FAT32 is just an older standard that is more compatible with Mac OS and some Linux distributions. Because of its age, it has problems like only allowing files to be a maximum of 4 GB, and is apparently a bit slower. NTFS is a more modern file system that doesn't have the same i...

Re: New PC Upgrade 2020 into 2021
Neth, I still don't really understand why you don't want NTFS for your drive. It would make no difference to your use case. Maybe you're misunderstanding the difference or something? Of course you can rewrite over stuff on an NTFS drive. What are you doing with these drives? Anything particularly un...

Re: The Big Backup
Yep, any cloud backup service is going to be limited by your upload speed. You have to get the files to them!
Like I said before, just get a decent 2 TB HDD and an SSD (512 GB or 1 TB?) for your boot drive. Even a SATA one would be a big upgrade.

Re: Subnautica: Below Zero [PC] - Expandalone
So has this finally had its 1.0 release then? I've had it installed for quite a while whilst I waited for that. I really like the first game, but I've heard mixed things about this one. I really don't like that they removed the Seamoth and Cyclops... I find having a mobile base that you can run arou...

Re: Upgrade Time
Nice!
As for the chipset fan thing: I ended up getting a (probably unnecessary) X570 mobo for my 5600x, mainly for the extra PCI-e 4 NVME slot. The only time the chipset fan even runs is a brief whirl when you press the power button, it's super pointless.

Re: New PC Upgrade 2020 into 2021
Going above 3200 MHz has very little benefit though. When you actually look at benchmarks, any (tiny) differences are in high FPS, very CPU limited scenarios. Really not worth the extra money required going for higher speeds/lower latencies. I had this issue when I built my system a few months ago, ...
