Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series
3 Body Problem I've seen next to no one talking about this (apart from it's banned in China). Made by the two guys behind Game of Thrones series based on a Chinese sci-fi novel. It's very much in the style of a Netflix series in that it's actually pretty good but will no doubt get cancelled shortly...

Re: UHD/HDR must haves
I've seen on-screen comparisons of Aliens bluray to 4k, and whilst it does appear to have been a bit more digitally "scrubbed" it seems to be mainly noticeable on the occasional facial shot, not as bad as True Lies and nowhere near the execrable Terminator 2 4k. I'll find out end of the month when ...

Re: UHD/HDR must haves
Finally, True Lies! :o This arrived yesterday, and I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of quality because reviews have been a mixed bag. James Cameron has seen fit to smear True Lies, Aliens and The Abyss with DNR, scrubbing away the grain to give a weird plastic look to the image. It's a tool th...

Re: I Just Watched (Films)
John Wick 3 and 4 Nope. They lost me. 1 and 2 were short, simple, highly-choreographed bloodfests, which worked nicely as an action formula. 3 and 4 are waaaaay too long. As impressive as the actions scenes are, some of them went on for bloody ages to the point where I just lost interest. They shou...

I'd been talking to my parents about a new shower they've had installed and I was trying to find the model they'd got. I'd heard them say it was a "grower" (which turned out to be Hansgrohe).
Googling "grower shower" did not produce expected results.

I've just got to Cosmo Canyon, which I've not explored at all yet but looks phenomonal. Costa Del Sol, the Gold Saucer and Corel are all fantastic. Gongaga isn't bad but I have thoughts, which I'll hold off on for now, except to say I think it's the closest the game has come to a stumble so far.

I had to go and find the article to see what the fuss was about.

Ehh, I think if the goal of the article is to get a layman interested in particle physics, then dressing it up in a flowery analogy is probably not the worst idea they could have had. Anyone who isn't already aware of the concept of dark matter and dark energy is going to have zero interest in this...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
This unbelievably patronising article that reads like it was written by someone who believes in the mystical power of crystal skulls. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-68631692 Some choice dribble: So what are these ghostly particles and why was a new approach needed to detect them? But...

Re: The Random Gaming Videos Thread
Yikes, the reviews I’ve read gave no mention of microtransactions whatsoever. Looking at metacritic, people aren’t happy.
Really not sure about picking this one up after FF7, not least because I didn’t get on with the first Dragon’s Dogma at all.

Re: I Just Watched (Films)
I still enjoy it, but I get what you’re saying. I think part of it is that comedy can age badly compared to other genres, especially if it’s something that you didn’t experience in its heyday. I tried watching The Producers last week, often hailed as one of the greatest comedy films of all time, and...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
I think the closest I've come to that level of assembly disaster was at the start of the pandemic where I decided to reorganise the second bedroom as proper office / entertainment room. It's a tiny room, but there wasn't room to do DIY anywhere else upstairs so I ended up putting together two 6ft bo...

This week I decided to make some long-needed alterations to my sim rig. You'll note that post was from 2021, and I mentioned that I still needed to mount my racing pedals. Well, it's 2024 now, and I still haven't finished mounting my racing pedals. They've been attached, sure, but not in a particul...

Sisu
Decent action romp about a Finnish gold miner slaughtering Nazis at the end of WW2. It’s John Wick meets Rambo, with a dash of Fury Road thrown in. Very violent, very silly and nicely paced at a swift 91 minutes.
