Re: Playstation & Sony News/Discussion

The FF7 remake is looking gorgeous, but I can't understand why they would dramatically change the actual gameplay of one of the most beloved games in history. I can understand that the ATB system of the original could be a bit tedious at times, but to just scrap the whole thing is idiotic. Given how...

Re: RAGE 2 [PC, PS4, XBone] - May 14th 2019

I think my main worry about this is that the vast majority of humour on display just hasn't hit the mark with me. It feels like it's trying just a bit too hard to be "zany".

Re: Game of Thrones S8 (Here be spoilers)

I wouldn't read too much into that; actors these days are under a lot of pressure to make sure they don't accidentally give anything away, so these sorts of reactions are just their squirming away from the question, because they know everyone on the internet will read too much into whatever expressi...

Re: Game of Thrones S8 (Here be spoilers)

I'm pretty sure the intention was that Dany's contingent were supposed to be outside of the maximum range of those weapons, though I appreciate the ballistae were shown to have an enormous range in a previous scene. I think they wanted to have the series end with a big fight on a real set, but the s...

Re: Game of Thrones S8 (Here be spoilers)

I actually really enjoyed that one, most likely because it's a return to the much more interesting plotline. Yes, there are elements that don't make any sense, but given that they have all of six episodes to wrap things up, I don't think it's that surprising. Nobody's being careful anymore because t...

Re: VR!

So with my new and better functioning sensor setup, I've finally gotten around to putting some time in with Superhot VR. The original Superhot was one of my favourite indie games of recent years, but sadly I've found the VR version pretty frustrating. Granted, I don't have a very large play area (I ...

Re: U Boat

Morale is a thing for eldritch horror games, surely.

Wait, guys, I've got a great idea for an expansion pack... Nazis at R'lyeh! - Manage your elite Kriegsmarine officers and discover the secret SS informant as the Fuhrer demands the secrets of the Great Old Ones!

I'd play that.

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Yeah, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has largely been fantastic. I felt it took a bit of a dip in season four (where it occasionally felt like people, particularly Holt, were acting quite out of character if it suited the plot), but five was a return to form and actually had me tearing up on occasion.

Re: Anthem [PC, PS4, XBone] - February 22nd 2019

Jim Sterling made a point that I think is probably all too true; players see development roadmaps as promised content, but publishers see it as free content. If a game is not making them money, then it doesn't really make sense for a publisher to continue pouring money into it. They're under no obl...

Re: VR!

The tracking is affected by the occasional disconnects rather than it being a consistent problem. In Superhot yesterday one of the sensors disconnected, and when it reconnected the system thought my left hand was about two feet to the right of where it was, and the game then played completely normal...

Re: General Film News

Hmm. They're changing Sonic's look.

Given how soon after the trailer this has been announced, one does have to wonder whether the terrible design was just there for the headlines, and they'd always planned to do this.

Whenever someone comments like that, I always assume that the publisher will instead follow the worst possible logic.

Our big budget live service game failed? Oh, there must not be a market for big budget games anymore. Let's focus on mobile! Fire all of our PC developers!

Re: VR!

No amount of swapping made any difference. I had a total of 10 USB ports prior to today, 6 of which were USB 3 and 4 USB 2. I've tried every combination I can think of swapping between the two types. The Inateck card arrived, and after it took an hour to fit (there was some sort of problem with the ...
