Check your system:

Apparently many people will have some BIOS setting disabled by default (TPM?) which is required by Windows 11. So you almost certainly can run it, but MS failed to take that into account (or they did and they didn't care). #-o

I tend to dive straight into new versions of Windows, as I prefer to pull the plaster as quickly as possible. Happy to be a guinea pig!

My check failed on the TPM front, I don't have a module but luckily I do have a socket on the mobo. After extensive trawling I've managed to find one for Β£18 inc p&p.

So win10 will not support direct storage so killer win11 feature I guess.

Glad the TPM module wasn't expensive as apparently all I needed to do was change one bios setting.

Well I've got more decisions now, I was expecting to just get another copy of Win10 whenever I complete that build considering there is no "Shop Windows 11" tab at MS's website but if the time limit is now four years and three months before support ends then I'll have to compare how much the new version costs, I'm assuming that circa 2020 hardware will just have this TPM and Win11 will just work.

Hopefully Microsoft won't fully terminate physical media for Win11, I'd happily accept another gateway USB stick job over being made to download the whole thing from scratch every single time, when servers are overloaded, 37 waking hours is never an installation time I ever want to endure again.

I assume it'll be a free upgrade from Win 10, so probably OK to just buy it?

It will indeed be a free update. Microsoft said the other day that Windows 11 will only support 8th Gen and up CPUs at launch, you can find a list of supported CPUs here.

Well this will be an expensive free upgrade. My CPU and Mobo are 9 years old.

so it looks like my system can run Win11 once I change my TPM to on in the bios.

I will wait for the reviews and feedback from ordinary punters. I am not that overly keen to turn my PC into an Mac O/S and I would like to group my apps (as you can do with the tiles on Win10) and this is something that you cannot do. I expect this will be patched and declared "a new feature"

My Asus mobo is 6 years old and doesn't have TPM. But I'm no rush to upgrade to W11. W10 is fully supported with security updates until 2025.

Plus at some point over the next couple of years I'll probably need a new mobo anyway. I'll jump in to W11 when the time comes.

I'm giving it a whirl on my laptop, which is a ~ 5,000 year old relic (1st gen Surfacebook). Honestly, I was surprised when I figured it had TPM 2.0
