I get 33/6Mbps.

There are no other options.

And that's the story of why I'm not allowed near pregnant women for the next few weeks.

Furore over the rather vigorous use of vram by current AAA titles has prompted me to fork out a bit

And as I've heard it's a bit power hungry -

Nice one, mate.

I'm looking at doing the same, although maybe only as far as the 6800xt. If you don't mind my asking, what CPU will you be running with this?

I7 9700K@4.9ghz all cores with 32Gb ofDDR4.

Planning to upgrade the platform possibly next year but it doesn't seem to be as big a bottleneck to the card as I expected, the card's still hitting 100% usage.

Figured it was about time I did a bit of a system refresh as I built this rig in 2012 and since then all I've done is up the RAM to 16gb and put a 980 Ti in it, both of which were 5+ years ago. My old i5-4670K is outside the period for even having capacity to install Windows 11, though it has served me very well for over a decade.

Here are the new toys. Just need to figure out how to clone my Windows boot drive over to the 1TB m.2 stick and then I can start migrating all of my SSD storage over to the 2TB stick.

I'm sticking with my 980 Ti for now as I'm still only gaming at 1080p and not particularly bothered about the most recent AAA titles anymore. Considering picking up a 3070 Ti at some point towards the end of the year though, perhaps in the Black Friday deals if I see a good one.

Most ssd's come with free cloning software I think, but my preference with a new motherboard is to do a clean install.

Got my own little treat through the post today, one of these:

To replace my 10-year-old, 24'' flatscreen (I think actually it was over 12 years old lol)

Well let me join in on this tech fest and announce that I upgraded to a MSI radeon 6800 and did my first ever PSU installation as I bought a Corsair 850w.

I bought my first ever desktop PC back in 2021 and it was partially built for me, all that I'd ever done before yesterday was install a GPU and extra fans so I was chuffed with myself that everything went smoothly. I also enjoyed the tinkering which never used to be something I'd enjoy.

Sticking with my Ryzen 5 3600 CPU for now but I'll upgrade that at some point. I'll also go for a higher resolution monitor within the year as, like Mantis, I'm still using 1080p at the moment but this card will clearly perform well above that.

I love my super-wide monitor even though it's getting on a bit now, real game changer I found.

PC building is great fun until something goes horribly wrong. ;) I built a PC about 20 years ago where I got to the first power up and nothing happened, which was distressing having spent most of my first major payslip on it. Turned out it was a dud PSU which got replaced and everything was fine.

So yes, it’s fun, but I 100% understand people who go for pre-built!

Did a bit more research and I think my plan now will be to go for a 4070 or 4070 Ti around the end of the year and then look to getting a nice g-sync 27" 1440p screen at some point next year. That should do for another decade I imagine.

The 40 series is worth it for DLSS 3 - it doubles my FPS in Cyberpunk with ray tracing on full, with almost no noticeable degredation in image quality. In theory it should only get better as the AI for it improves and more games start to support it. Nvidia have had some gimmicks over the years but this tech appears to be the real deal.

I had the same experience when I bought a 2080 (for a lot more) only for the 30 cards to rock up 3 months later!

Have you considered a super-wide screen Dave? They really are an immense step-change from a standard monitor and prices are much more affordable these days. Samsung have some nice ones (I have used Samsung kit for years and swear by it).

That would be me. I know how to build a PC, and always enjoy it when I am asked to help friends do so. When it came to my own though I put the support and warranty, as well as the convenience, at a premium.
