Got myself a 43" Samsung 4K UHD TV for the lolz. Connected to an Xbox One that can support 4K games, everything looks amazing! Battlefield V and Red Dead being the standouts. I was previously on a 24" HDTV, needless to say my mind is blown.

I have few blu-rays but can only find Robocop, which unsurprisingly looks a bit odd in 4K.

Cheers Hatredsheart. It's been weird to go AMD cpu after all this time (last one was the Athalon) but the performance for more than just gaming was to good to pass up on.

So my PC gave up the ghost (as ranted about in Room 101). Troubleshooting shows either the CPU or Mobo, so replacing both. Thankfully it doesn't seem to have done any harm to my GTX 2080 but the rebuild will confirm that for certain [-o<

The new CPU means a new cooler, and also as the PSU has been in there since I bought the machine 4-5 years ago I decided that replacing that was also prudent.

Amazon man been today, and as well as being £700 lighter of pocket I am now the owner of:
Intel Core i7 9700K 3.6GHz Octa Core LGA1151 CPU
Corsair Hydro H100 x 240 mm Radiator Dual 120 mm PWM Fans Liquid CPU Cooler
ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming LGA1151 mobo
Corsair RMi Series RM850i ATX/EPS Fully Modular 80 PLUS Gold 850 W Power Supply

Time to get building...

There's always something lovely about unboxing pristine new computer parts, until you remember what it's done to your bank account.

Hope the build goes smoothly!

Motherboard in.

WTF? An overclocking fan built into the USB etc connection shielding? Why didn't they tell me to get that in before I attached it to the case.

Motherboard out.

All done, all up and running again.

Happy days, didn't realise how much I use my PC until it wasn't there!

So after I bought my XBox One X back in November, I'd expected to use it with my PC monitor (my living situation at the moment means that I can't really use the living room TV most of the time), but I've realised recently just how much sitting in my office chair is making my neck and shoulders ache. The sensible thing to do really would be to look at replacing my chair, but that would have been boring. So I did the natural thing and bought a 50 inch 4k TV that now sits at the foot of my bed.

I'll hopefully be moving out of my current place into a house of my own this year, I figure either my ex or I would need a new TV anyway, so why not just do it now. I mean sure, a 50 inch TV is perhaps a little excessive when my eyes are only about 8 feet away, but I'm future proofing. Yes, that'll do.

In truth I've wanted to replace our ten year old 43 inch Samsung for years anyway, and I really wanted a TV with Ambilight, because, well, look at it in action:

Blaster bolts fly off into my peripheral vision when they miss, the entire wall lights up green when I heal, and as a bonus it massively reduces eye strain when playing in a dark room.

Yeah, same Raid. It was dropped in so casually I wasn't sure if it was a recent thing or not or something you've already mentioned elsewhere that I've just not seen.

Hope you're doing ok.

It happened over a year ago, but we're stuck living together as our house hasn't sold. It's not really a topic for the hardware thread though.

Always about to hear about the breakdown of a relationship. Hope you're doing OK Raid. Unfortunately your situation appears to be pretty common these days. Hope you're all able to move on with things soon.

Oh and sweet telly mate. :D
