There’sa lot of back and forth about them being tournament legal though they are currently accepted as such.
Pointless detail you don’t need:
There’s a thing called socd cleaner (simultaneous opposing cardinal direction cleaner) which a hit box must have to be tournament legal. It makes it so you can’t input commands that are impossible on a stick, holding both left and right for example. This makes L+R=neutral and D+U=U but as a side effect you can do weird shortcuts that are near impossible to replicate on a stick.
Dashes
F, F is your general dash command. On a stick if you are walking forward and then dash there a slight delay where your character stops then dashes. On a hitbox you keep holding F and tap B,B. Since socd counts both forwards and back as neutral that registers as F, N, F, N, F super quick and the dash comes out without your character stopping walking.
Walking instant SRK
SRK is F, D, DF+P. On a stick if your perform that while walking your character stops and crouches for a split second. On a hitbox you hold F to walk them while holding forward you tap D,P and you do from walking straight into SRK.
Super moves
D, DF, F, D, DF F P can be done by holding F and tapping B+D, B+D, P and it comes out super quick. Again here it’s registered D F D F P because of socd and because most fighting games have lenient inputs it’s enough to activate a super.
It’s an interesting controller and an interesting time for fighters.
