Windows 10 Updates

Post by Achtung Englander » Fri Nov 23, 2018 3:57 pm

Hi

Can you do me a favour please, can you check to see what version of Win 10 you are using.

My computer did a last big update back in May with 1803. You can find this under Settings / Windows Update / View Update History

The Oct update is 1810 and my computer refuses to update. In Settings / Windows Update / Advanced Options "Auto-download" is switched off and I cannot switch it back on. I did not fiddle with the registry key so I am at a loss as to why I cannot switch it back on.

I'm not positive but I think mine is 1809. Not at all fully positive though without checking later.

Mine had version 1803 when I looked earlier, and it did seem like auto updating had been turned off. I turned it back on and the machine did update itself when I switched it off. I'll check again when I turn it back on this evening.

I did have an issue where my copy of Windows claimed to be unregistered a few weeks back, I had to go into the settings and tell it to check again.

updated to 1809 but had to do it by manual prompt. Looks like auto-update is back on.
no idea why it got stuck on 1803 ?

it looks like Microsoft stopped pushing updates. I wanted 1809 because of the dark mode on explorer and snip & sketch. Me likes my dark colours. Set my default to black/grey, its so much easier on the eye

I am also keen on the idea of a dark mode for explorer. I recently got a chrome extension that gives every site you visit a dark theme (it works most of the time, but any site with images with drop shadows, Amazon for example, looks a bit crap). I look forward to it.

1803 here too for some reason, yet the main Windows Update page seems to think that I'm all up to date. :-k

yep that confused me as well. They stopped pushing 1809. I mean you do not really need 1809 unless you want a complete dark mode and the new snipping tool. The manual download link is at the top of the thread. The OS is not being updated but all the security and window programs are - so I have no idea why they stopped pushing out 1809.

1810 was fucked (and rollout of that has been shelved) but 1809 looks to be pretty stable with no issues.

They had to cancel the roll out to 1809 again due to bugs with intel chipset display. But you need the 1809 update if you're using a RTX card to get the features on nVidia as well from the updated DX12.

You can always force the update if you wish from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows10

Fucking hell. You can see why Apple want to control the HW infrastructure as well as the OS. Msft have to create an OS for thousands of HW permutations. Kind of feel sorry for them until I just remembered they are a huge faceless multinational company

Build 18305

Sandbox, which is just for Pro and Enterprise, is brilliant idea. A windowed one-off Win 10 operating system that is independent of your main OS. Perfect for installing SW if you are unsure about it. Every time you close it down it saves nothing. Brilliant
