Alexa and Spotify

Hi all. Got an Echo Dot for Christmas. I've got my Spotify Premium to it but if I've got it playing on my phone and then ask Alexa to play something different, it'll override my phone, whether on the wifi or data. Is there a way to stop that from happening?

Thanks.

You mean you want it to play on your phone and on Alexa? Spotify only supports one device at a time.

Or do you want to ask Alexa to play a song on your phone? I think you need to use whatever voice assistant is on your phone for that.

Neither of those, sorry it can get confusing this. I want Alexa to be able to play one song and my phone to be able to play a different song. So if I'm casually using the app and someone says 'Alexa play' my phone switches over to that song, which is what I don't want. Hope that clears it up.

You won't be able to get them to play different songs at the same time. One will always override the other.

Yup, you'll need to have more than one account to have two different songs playing at the same time. If this is a regular need, you could look into the Spotify family plan that gives you multiple accounts for £15 a month.

If you download the songs on your phone and switch to offline mode it would work but that’s about it.

That's a bit of a bummer. Thanks for letting me know, chaps.
