AMD really are knocking it out of the park here. Probably will go for a AMD CPU next build now :)

Wouldn't mind owning some stock in AMD atm.

This week rumors began to circulate that an unnamed individual had somehow obtained the source for Navi 10, Navi 21 and Arden devices, the latter representing the rumored GPU for the yet-to-be-released Xbox Series X.

Zen 3 announced and they sound pretty good, Intel need to bring out something pretty special with their next chips to match this, especially as AMD are claiming single core performance is now up their with Intel.
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5950X: 16-core, 32 thread, 4.9GHz boost, 72 MB L2+L3 cache, 105W TDP $799
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X: 12-core, 24 thread, 4.8GHz boost, 70MB L2+L3 cache, 105W TDP $549
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X: 8-core, 16 thread, 4.7GHz boost, 36MB cache, 105W TDP $449
  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600X: 6-core, 12-thread, 4.6GHz boost, 35MB cache, 65W TDP $299
Coming November 5.

It's worth noting that these new chips are actually more expensive than their Intel counterparts, so it'll be interesting to see how the real world benchmarks stack up. Of course with AMD you don't necessarily need to replace your motherboard, so for someone upgrading it's more likely to be significantly cheaper.

The 5900X is the same price as the 10900k and the 5800X Β£10 more than the 10850k. The only real difference is the 1060K and the 5600X with around Β£40 in it, this is all assuming $ to Β£ is 1-1. If the proclaimed performances hold up though it probably becomes immaterial.

If I'm honest I'm going off what American and Canadian commentators have said and I haven't done a conversion. Yes, there's very little in it, but I think it's just noteworthy that AMD don't see the need to position themselves as the budget option any longer.

Yeah the 5600X is certainly higher priced than previous similar chips. Arguably though it is also a step up in performance to match the higher price.

Honestly the thing that would sell me on another AMD card is availability; it's been over a month since the 3080 launch and I still can't even place an order for one without paying in advance for it (Overclockers) which is not something I'm prepared to do. The actual performance seems to be roughly equivalent, though the extra memory on AMD's offerings is noteworthy. If it's just the new 5000 series CPUs that benefit from those extra goodies then they're not of much use to me.

Either way I'm looking forward to benchmarks.

On the surface these look like great cards but none of the benchmarks mention ray tracing and AMDs answer to DLSS is unproven, the 6800 being more expensive than the 3070 is also a bit of a shame. Seeing the 6900XT match up against the 3090 should be interesting though.

I managed to snag a 5600x today and from the benchmarks it seems it is staggeringly fast so pretty happy. Now I just need to wait till the November sales to see if I can pick up a cheap motherboard, PSU or memory.

does any one have an AMD GPU and what are your experiences with the drivers ? Any crashes to desktop, black outs ?

I am in the potential market to upgrade my GPU and this time around it is a bit of a nightmare to be honest. All affordable 3080 cards cannot be bought (thanks bots !) so I was looking at AMD and came across this

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powercol ... 9b-pc.html

I did some research and found a lot of people are really pissed with the AMD drivers. The consensus is that Nvidia make better drivers but for affordable (sub Β£600) GPU AMD are knocking it out of the park. I am thinking about this card but there are a lot of mixed reviews.
