All right, Stacob 'Cadaver Kid' Pains volunteers (since he's the only one with enough room to carry it) a bindle made from a lopped off tree branch and Doc's coat, containing all his personal effects! Doc trots along at his side. If you didn't know them, you'd think Doc was a faithful hound. In reality, Doc's probably trying to make sure CK doesn't drop any of his things!

The Bean Bunch trudge out of the clearing with the well and head back through the passageway of snow-caked pines to the main clearing where they, some ten minutes ago, saw a strange silhouette up ahead, shrouded as it was by the freshly-driven snow in this shadowy forest.

The cold wind chills your bones, yet you do not succumb to frostbite.

You approach the ghostly figure in the clearing and, as you draw near, you see that it is in fact, two men. Two men sitting down at a wooden table in the middle of the clearing, on a pair of chairs facing opposite each other. As you draw closer, you see that their long beards are frozen, though the men themselves are very much alive, and made of flesh and blood. On the table between them is a chessboard. In fact, you recognise it. It is the very chessboard that the leper by the side of the Scorned Path had in front of him. Several of the chess pieces are missing though. Not simply removed from the board as one does in regular play, but missing altogether.

The men hear you crunching through the snow and turn about to face you.

The men, bundled up in fur coats and hats, stare at the Bean Bunch for a moment, taking you all in, then they turn back to their game, apparently disinterested in your presence, though you can tell, even at this distance, they're having a hard time of it with the missing pieces. Frustration is etched into their features.

Can we examine what pieces are missing? Maybe come up with some replacements with items we have on our person (bullets, croc teeth, etc).

Cumflutter speculates that probably the only way out of this frozen purgatory is for these men to finish their game. Introducing their brains to fresh air is unlikely to go well for us.
