Doc, sniffing the chess board (much to the [mild] irritation of the two players) picks up the scent of the missing pieces on the wind, coming from somewhere to the west.
My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

Seeing CK unholster his guns, Doc will run in excited circles to gain the group's attention and strike off to the west in determined fashion...

I’ll follow Doc and keep an eye out for anything noteworthy.

"What is it Doc?! Did somebody fall down the well again?"
"I think he wants us to follow him!"

The Bean Bunch, and their animals, leave the chess-masters to their (broken) chess game and head off toward the west of the forest clearing, pushing through the fallen snow while fresh flakes continue to rain down from above in silence. As they move further west, they catch sight of three sights of note:

To the north, what looks like a log-cabin.

Further to the west, two more distant figures are walking through the snow, near the clearing's western tree-line.

To the south-west, there is what appears to be a distant pool. In this temperature, it can only be frozen solid, yet despite that, two more figures are sitting near it. Fishermen, perhaps?

Whither the scent trail leads?

"Anyone care to check the cabin? Maybe we can warm ourselves by a fire "

Doc sniffs the air.

The scent of the chess pieces seems to be coming from the south-west, where the frozen pool lies.

Doc will indicate to the SW, classic Pointer-style
