Before he's shot dead by Doc, a Clown swings his barbed-wire-wrapped club at Roach's head! A barb snags the rim of his midnight blue hat and pulls it right off his head, but no bodily harm is done.

Seconds later, in a storm of bullets and gun-smoke, only one Clown stands left in the room.

Cumflutter leans around the door-frame and shoots him with his revolver, the bullet tearing a light flesh-wound! The Clown, realising he is outnumbered and outgunned, pulls a small bottle from his pocket and hurls it into the midst of the group, before dashing out of the kitchen's northern door (that leads back to the main entrance hall of the ranch). The bottle smashes and there's a bright flash and burst of smoke as its contents are exposed to the air.

Everyone must test SLICK to avoid being caught in a small chemical explosion, followed by GRIT to avoid succumbing to the effects of a cloud of laughing gas!
My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

6 + 1 = 7

In the midst of the inexplicably hilarious gas cloud, I have a sudden vision of a dumpy fellow that looks like a penguin alongside someone wearing a green bowler hat adorned with question marks, and for the briefest of moments I contemplate dressing up like a bat...

I guess that was your GRIT roll! Could you also roll for SLICK to avoid being physically harmed by the explosion...

EDIT: No, I think that might have been your SLICK roll? In which case, you must roll a d3 for damage.

No, that was my SLICK roll - I'd missed the need for a GRIT roll, which is:

16 - 1 = 15

3 on the D3

Got it. So, you don't succumb to the gas effects, but you are harmed by the explosion!

So we roll a D20 and a D3?

You roll a d20 for SLICK, and a d20 for GRIT.

If you roll less than 12 on your SLICK roll, taking into account your personal modifiers (+1 in your case), you roll d3 damage for being caught in a small chemical explosion.

If you roll less than 12 on your GRIT roll, taking into account your personal modifiers (+1 in your case,) you succumb to a fit of uncontrollable laughter for a few seconds (long enough for the Clown to get away from you).

That's a 15+4 on my Slick roll, and weirdly also a 15+unsure for my Grit.

Can I shoot at the back of the retreating clown?

... which is not a sentence I thought I'd ever say :lol:

11+1 and 13+1. Think I dodged getting damaged there, just about.
Can I throw the tomahawk at the clown?

Both Cumflutter and Doc Scotum are unhurt by the explosion and the subsequent gas laughing gas cloud does not affect either of you.

Both of you notice the Clown, having already left the kitchen by its northern door, is attempting to open the double-doors to the north of the entrance hall. This is in direct line of sight to where you're standing.

Doc, you can fire both pistols at the Clown with a Slick test (d20+4) or fire one pistol without needing to make an aiming test (in which case it's a single d6 roll).

Cumflutter, you can throw your tomahawk with a Slick test (d20+1) or shoot your revolver without needing to make a test (in which case it's a single d6 roll).

All right, roll 2d6!

Re-roll any 6s you roll and add them to the total.
