Just to be clear, the sheriff is proposing we hand over the heads so he can claim the bounty on them, while we get to keep the contents of the safe and any other miscellaneous bits and bobs we found?

Yes.

Loudmouth bounties, combined, were $580.

The contents of the safe were $300 + a golden statue + a pewter statue + a whistle that doesn't seem to make a noise
The sheriff should claim the Loudmouth Gang was the ones who robbed the mayor and now they're all dead.

My backup plan was to see if I could trick the sheriff into getting eaten by the crocodile, but the murder of a lawman and the potential headache that could cause us may mean it's not worth the greater payday

CK is extremely not happy with this proposal - a bounty is a bounty and Boone is as corrupt as the rest. And the fact that I was stripped of my badge is still a sore point. But seeing the looks of acceptance from his companions, he’ll stand down.

“You can have the heads. Maybe we’ll come to collect those bounties from you at a later date, if you’re not willin’ to honour them at this time. ON ONE CONDITION. This shitkicker, Manny, done shot up my handcuffs when I tried to take him alive. Least you could do is give me a pair of yer own to replace them. The state might not let me wear the star any more, but holding sonsabitches like these to account is my callin’. Understand?”

The sheriff looks up and sees Cumflutter shout this from the doorway.

"Well, fancy seein' you here too, Cornelius Cumflutter III. As it happens we were just about to do just that."

The deputies dismount and take up the heads of the Loudmouth leaders and drop them in their saddle-bags, as well as the heads of the other Loudmouths you left lying near the well. This done, they re-mount.

Boone looks back at Pains.

"Are you shittin' me, Pains? You don't get to turn your back on the Law and ask for favours from it, 'specially as I's already doin' ya one by lettin' you walk away. You want a pair of cuffs from me, you can wear 'em while I drag your carcass to jail. How 'bout that?"

“I never left the law. It was taken FROM me for a crime I DID NOT commit, by men like you. Attempted grave robbin’ ain’t the same as actual grave robbin’. I had my reasons and I changed my mind. So don’t tell me I left the law when you’re tryin’ to swindle us by claiming those bounties as your own, Boone.”

I place a hand on my revolver.

“Is a pair of handcuffs worth $580 to you? Is your life?”

All three men sling hunting rifles off their shoulders, in readiness for action.

"Is that a threat, Pains?" says the Sheriff.

"Cause if it is...well..."

He glances over at the stable.

"...I think I could add another $210 to your own bounty for...spectacular arson...and maybe $140 for attempted murder."

He grins.

"When you wear the badge, you abide by it. I deem you unfit for service."

I draw both guns and shoot at the ground near the horses to startle them and hopefully dismount the sheriff and his cronies.

(Apologies to all concerned. )

While that happens, Doc will dive for cover behind the well and open up at the sheriff with both revolvers.

12 and 12 on the 2d20... so that's 16 and 16 I think with my +4 Slick added.

Cumflutter let's out an exasperated sigh and fires at the nearest lawman.
(If he's on his horse I believe I get a bonus)

First, Cadaver Kid, could you roll me three sets of 2d6.

Each total result of 10 or higher will cause a horse to rear up and knock off its rider.

1 + 2 = 3
5 + 6 = 11
2 + 4 = 6

All right, we'll assume Cadaver Kid's bullets will strike near the feet of Boone's horse. It rears up and he tumbles to the ground.

The others stay mounted.

At this moment, Doc fires his pistols at Boone.

Doc, roll 2d6, re-rolling any sixes and adding to the result, as per the normal revolver-shootin' method.
