His role as Arjen Rudd in Lethal Weapon 2 for me is pretty darn iconic. RIP fella.

Shane McGowan, Henry Kissinger and Jimmy Corkhill from Brookside all died in past 24 hours.
If there's such a thing a hell no doubt Kissinger has a nice spot reserved.

I've never been able to narrow down what inspires such vitriol against Kissenger (through ignorance rather than disagreement). What was he responsible for that makes people detest him so much? I don't have a great deal of knowledge on Cold-War politics and there's so much context to absorb when trying to read up on him.Animalmother wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 12:43 pmIf there's such a thing a hell no doubt Kissinger has a nice spot reserved.

From the little I know of him, he was instrumental in prolonging the Vietnam war (he sabotaged LBJ's peace talks by defecting to Nixon's election campaign and giving him intel on the talks) and was the brains behind carpet bombing Cambodia and North Vietnam. He also once said that if not for his accident of birth, he'd be antisemitic, and that if Soviets were gassing Jewish people then it wasn't of American concern.
And despite that, he was chummy with almost every post-war president.

He also gave support to toppling the government's of Chile and Argentina that resulted in some brutal dictatorships. Various coups in Africa and Asia were given the go ahead and millions of people died.

He lasted longer than I ever thought that he would, but am really sad to hear of the passing of Shane McGowan of The Pogues.

We did a run for several years of heading to London on St Patrick's night when I was in my late teens/early twenties and going to see The Pogues play. Incredibly boozy nights and the music was just perfect for it for a group of disillusioned young punks and metalheads. McGowan was almost always hammered onstage, but still had an amazing fire to his performances.
Thanks for the great memories Shane, rest easy.
