Just finished watching this eye-opening documentary, something I have never heard about, and feel ashamed
that we haven't had any of this represented in films etc.:

Sure. Except Star Trek has Isolinear Chips, which are crystalline ...and Optolythic Data Rods, which are also crystalline.
