Trump: Impeach is the new Orange

They deserve everything they get. The rest of the world doesn’t, though.
Fucking hell.
Fucking hell.

He may win the popular vote…. let that one sink in.

On the plus side, Trump said he'd release everything the US has on UFOs if he won, so maybe he'll meet an accident sooner rather than later...? I'm clinging to anything I can right now.
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Does anyone else feel a little blasé about it this time around? Trump winning in 2016 (along with the Brexit vote that same year) kinda broke my world view, and I tend not to expect anything good to come out of elections. Well here we are again.
I maintain that the worst thing we got out of Trump's 2016 victory was Boris Johnson, as Trump showed just how much shit a politician can get away with if they just keep lying. I'm not sure what we'll get this time around. America may self-destruct, but maybe the UK can try and rebuild bridges with Europe, because we're sure as hell not going to do it with the US. Trump already thinks we committed election interference by having Labour staffers assist the Democrats, and we know he'll take grudges to the grave.
This is going to be a very bad time for America, but I think the rest of the world just needs to crack on and work out how everything operates knowing that the US isn't as important as it used to be.

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
I think his victory this time is much more bleak for the rest of the world.
He threatens to seriously undermine security in Europe with his attitude towards NATO, and if he further strengthens Putin's hand in Ukraine then the outlook for the war is really not good, which further threatens the rest of Europe alongside throwing the poor Ukrainian population into a genocide.
He's likely to turn a blind eye towards further military action by Israel in the West Bank, which only serves to push the entirety of the Middle East closer to a full blown conflict. The economic costs of an all out war would be felt sorely over here, plus it would make the refugee crisis even worse which will only strengthen the far right political parties in Europe.
He will basically doom all progress on climate change to the extent that any attempts to mitigate the worst damage we're likely to see from it in the next 20 years are now likely to fail.
He's going to exacerbate tensions with China, potentially to the point of a full blown trade war, which will have a significant knock on effect on the world economy and likely polarise our spheres of influence further against each other.
It was bad in 2016, but this election could not have come at a worse time. The geopolitical implications of the next four years could be absolutely massive if he follows a worst case scenario path. And that's not even factoring in any of the crazy shit he's likely to do domestically which will turn America into a fascist state.

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
I can imagine there's a lot of people in the US feeling very frightened at the moment and rightly so. I just wonder will it be a gradual slide into hell or will he just kick the doors open on day one.
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
He made a big fuss about the number of executive orders he made after the 2016 win (though I have a feeling that's not unusual for a new president). He'll go in guns blazing. The big question is whether he'll pardon himself for all crimes on day 1 or day 2.Animalmother wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 10:44 amI just wonder will it be a gradual slide into hell or will he just kick the doors open on day one.

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Will he allow shit in the world to get so bad then declare himself President for Life because you can't change leadership during a world war?
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
So does he throw Kiev to the dogs so we have to eat chicken Putingrad or does he make a big show of bartering a large portion of Ukraine away to be the peacemaker with a pacemaker?
Then does he let Israel go nuts or stop them from going after Iran since they’re Putin buddies?
Yep, going to be an interesting few months. Long term I dont think a larger war in Europe is off the table but I don’t have kids and my best years are behind me so fuck it. -_-

Oh come on him and that Green Party woman were both awful!

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
He's made comments before about "making a deal" with Putin, and that's his entire mindset. Everything can be fixed by making a deal. He wants to do the big handshake and nothing else matters. And then he'll insist he created 60 million American jobs in building the balcony that Zelensky tragically falls from.
Ahh, the Palpatine gambit. It's a solid choice. I think he's laid the groundwork for a lot of good doublethink, whether that'll stretch to "we never have any wars while I'm in charge" and "we'll have the greatest war in the history of our country, no president has ever won a war bigger than this" remains to be seen.Animalmother wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 11:46 amWill he allow shit in the world to get so bad then declare himself President for Life because you can't change leadership during a world war?
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Ukraine is a stalemate for the foreseeable future, so Trump will probably strongarm Ukraine into conceding territory that’s currently occupied. In terms of the shitty things Trump could do, this feels like the least of them given the alternatives for Ukraine.Alan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 11:50 amSo does he throw Kiev to the dogs so we have to eat chicken Putingrad or does he make a big show of bartering a large portion of Ukraine away to be the peacemaker with a pacemaker?

Trump will surely give Israel carte Blanche to do whatever they want, with whatever support they ask for, so long as they don’t instigate a full-scale war with Iran. And if they do, he could quietly appease Putin by buying some cheap oil.
If you replace ‘Jedi’ with ‘liberals’, this situation does read quite similar to Revenge of the Sith.Ahh, the Palpatine gambit.

I have, more than once in the last couple of months, mouthed the line "So this is how liberty dies; with thunderous applause" silently to myself. I unironically love that film, but it's impossible not to draw comparisons to because it's famed atrocious writing just feels so appropriate to the MAGA mentality.
