Nah, I think it's a face-saving measure as the weather is due to be legitimately too cold to expect people to stand around for hours in. The optics of people leaving early or not turning up at all will have been considered.

I'm sorta fascinated to see what his actual plan for Ukraine is, if indeed he actually has one and it wasn't just idle boasting (it's difficult to tell) - I mean obviously whatever plan he may have won't work, but I'm interested in what exactly that would be. Does he think he's going to solve deep-rooted ideological and historical concerns in a 30 minute meeting, maybe 25 minutes as he doesn't want to miss his tee time?

Putin has already seeded the idea that the US will build reconnections with Russia. Dugin has mentioned an increase in longitudinal connection with an alliance with Iran to give access to the Indian Ocean and the Arctic for both, and incorporated the idea that the US will be doing similar into his opinion...all serving the "multipolar new-world order" he has been evangelical about these last years. Darkness will cover the earth like never before, to serve the most selfish and greed lusting the planet has ever suffered.

I don't think it matters what happens with Israel-Palestine. He'll take credit if it goes well and blame Biden if it doesn't - there's enough cognitive dissonance in his supporters to not see the connection between Trump claiming responsibility for the recent ceasefire and hostage return agreement.

I listened to a brief video on the beeb earlier where they'd asked people who'd turned up in Washington what they wanted from Trump on day 1. Just about every one of them that wasn't talking about border security and deportations was talking about ending corruption and even repeating slogans from his first campaign (draining the swamp was one, I'm not sure if he used that one for 2024 but he certainly had 4 years to do this already). These people have no idea who they've actually voted in.
