Urgh, so one of the executive orders he signed yesterday declared that the United States would no longer recognise trans or non-binary people. So we have an un-elected government official making Nazi salutes on the inauguration podium (and they're being declared as such by a number of historians and other academics) and minorities suddenly no longer recognised.

I feel like the people who'll care are still a little bit in shock about it. I knew the guy was an arsehole, but it's so remarkable that part of me does still think there's a possibility he was maybe off his gourd and maybe just been dared to do it by one of his stoner associates and didn't actually mean what it represents (and I'm absolutely scraping the barrel of benefit-of-the-doubt here). But fucking hell it's absolutely astonishing. That astonishment is slowly making way for the correct feeling of utter abhorrence.

Exactly, there's no bloody basis in fact for half of this crap, but the innocent people who just want to be comfortable with who they are, just trying to live their lives and not push an "agenda" on anyone else, are caught in the middle of it, and it absolutely fucking stinks. I'm friends with a couple of trans people, and they're much happier in themselves having gone through the process, but I'm worried that this sort of shit is going to make the jump across the Atlantic (and Elon will undoubtedly try his best to do just that) and make their lives, already fraught with difficulty, all the more difficult, and I absolutely do not want that for them.

An old girlfriend of mine had a neighbour in the downstairs flat that is trans, and the torture she went through just being able to continue existing was painful, dis-owned by a father who just refused to even try to understand, bullied at any work they attempted to live a "normal" life, it was frustrating to witness and I was fully aware that experiencing it was much worse for her. Some nights she would just literally bang her head against the wall to take focus off her struggles. No human should have to go through that. Live and let live is sacrosanct, it doesn't have to be a problem, but here we are.

I've seen it pointed out in several places that Trump's new "gender is determined at conception" ruling has a tiny flaw. All mammal fetuses are female for the first 6 weeks before hormones change some to male. By his ruling all men are now technically trans.

While it's not scientifically correct it still shows the utter lack understanding when they write these stupid fucking laws. No doubt it starts with trans people, up the line until it's everyone that's LGBTQ.
