The voting age will be lowered to 16 across the UK for the next general election, the government has confirmed
Well this is spicy. I'm all for it in principle, but how are they going to spin this as anything other than a cynical fuck you to Reform? Not that I have a problem with that, of course.

The thinking might be that they're less likely to vote Conservative or shitbags like Farage. But I'd say disenfranchised youth are more likely to vote rightwing or whatever the Youtuber they subscribe to tells them for the LOLS.

I'm for it, though I don't think we should be expecting anywhere close to the figure being thrown around of newly enfranchised teenagers actually voting. Still, I reckon there's a decent chance we'd still be in the EU had this happened ten years ago.

I think this will probably prove to be a mistake that does not go in the direction that Labour are hoping. Young people on social media are increasingly being radicalized by right wing influencers and I can see a lot of them voting for parties like Reform.

I agree that's a risk, but frankly it shouldn't even be a consideration. Besides, it's something they campaigned on, and a big, well-publicised promise that they seemingly intend to keep (it's always possible it'll be blocked somewhere along the way) - the media do seem to be doing their best to play down the good stuff that Labour are actually doing and focusing on the stuff that they aren't, but this isn't something that could be hidden easily as it'll be in all the election coverage.
