Yeah, we might as well go and investigate. Hopefully nothing bad will happen to me this time...

Stop ruining the roleplaying with your percentages and probabilities! You always want to search for hidden treasures. Always. ¬_¬Maturin wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 8:42 pmTherre's only a slim chance of finding better gear in empty rooms, it'll either be coins or nothing. Plus there's a chance of something bad happening.
I wonder if we need to bother with coins, since they're only useful between quests for buying new gear - and I'm not sure yet whether we're going to be doing all that stuff.
I'd recommend sticking to looting dead monsters and treasure chests.

I agree with the team, let's check out the door at the end of the room. Terence can go first this time seeing as he seems to be the lucky one in the group.
Then Gibnar, Paulox and myself.

Each state your positions and I'll get it drawn up on the map.

Eh? Knowing when to search and when not to search often made the difference between success & failure in such an unforgiving game. I haven't forgotten that part of AHQ. ¬_¬Stormbringer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 8:49 pmStop ruining the roleplaying with your percentages and probabilities! I once read a review that said AHQ was "Warhammer Quest's abusive father" and "as deadly as a knife-fight in a phone-box"

We always felt the fate point system was a desperate late addition they made after playtesting.
Although, as DMs, tbh we often bent the rules a little bit to give heroes a slightly better than terrible chance of success. We made henchman cheaper, more fate points, etc. Made it more fun.

Unfortunately for you, I'm a "play-it-by-the-book" sort of fellow. ¬_¬

The campaign was a thing of beauty. Getting enough treasure in the early quests to recruit enough henchman as cannon fodder and always up against it the deeper you went into dungeons. Endless risk taking, weighing things up.
Needed a bit of care and attention from the DM though. Kind of like D&D in a way; a decent DM would elevate the game into something else.

Anyway, Terence, you've been chosen to lead the way. Are you going to open the door this turn?

That's probably the best way to do it as a one-off forum quest tbh. Stick to the rules, at least first time round, and see how it goes.Stormbringer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 9:08 pm

Yes, I shall make my way to the doorway and open it.Stormbringer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 9:17 pmAnyway, Terence, you've been chosen to lead the way. Are you going to open the door this turn?
Re: Advanced Hero Quest: Quest I: The Halfling Cook
Agreed. If we all die before getting off the first floor, then perhaps it'd be time for homebrewing the rules a little.
