Yeah, it seems a little ridiculous that you can be allowed to do a job like running a global superpower without first proving that you're going to be able to remember the name of the leader you're dealing with. Biden got Egypt and Mexico confused the other day. I can't see how it can be some sort of affront to democracy to test that a chosen leader can actually do the job, but I reckon that's exactly how it'd be reported.Wrathbone wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 12:09 pmWhat baffles me is why it is not standard across the world for anyone seeking public office to have to take a basic mental competency test. Nothing complicated, just the sort of test that's used in diagnosing dementia. I can't imagine Biden or Trump completing it without something being flagged up. There should be a reasonable upper age limit too - let's say 75. Not simply because of the risks of health and mental function, but also because they're not likely to live to see the consequences of their political choices.
Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
I just generally assume that Trump is running because he wants to pardon himself for his many, many crimes.

This is worth a watch if you enjoy schadenfreude. It contains increasingly desperate video messages from Donald to his supporters.
Trump can't pay his half-billion dollar penalty because no company in their right minds will offer a bond of that amount to an individual, and by his own admission he doesn't have the cash for it.

I'm surprised he can hold onto that thing without suffering third degree burns.

Apologies if already posted.
Building the future, and keeping the past alive - are one and the same thing.

Guilty on all 34 counts.
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
I expect there will be a disappointing sentencing (i.e. no prison) followed by weeks or months of appeals, but at least it’s official now: he’s a convicted felon. And sadly it probably won’t make a jot of difference to his voter base.
EDIT - Holy shit, I hadn’t realised that each of the 34 charges has a maximum prison sentence of 4 years. If he gets probation for all of them that’s insane. Could they give him house arrest instead of prison?

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
The stakes just got much, much higher for him to win the election now so he can pardon himself. This is going to be really unpleasant to say the least. The fact that he's even allowed (assuming he doesn't go to prison) to run for president is fucking insane.
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Flynny boy might just have to exact his black swan event so it can be blamed on Biden. Be under no illusions, the right will do everything in their power now to justify the level of control they are ready to take for themselves. It won't be through policy...

Having a watch of Fox because I hate myself. I think it was Kelly Ann Conway that just said “This verdict won’t make Joe Biden any less 81 and Kamala Harris any less unstupid”. They do a good job of brainwashing. It’s easy to see how someone that only watches Fox would fall down the hole. They are amazing liars, Ted Cruise in particular is exceptional.

Yeah, sadly the guy is not going to face actual jail time for this. For one thing it's not considered much of a crime in New York, but mostly it's the practicalities of imprisoning a former president, which would be incredibly disruptive to the prison and require secret service protection inside. In reality this verdict probably won't mean much, but the expectation is that his less fundamentalist supporters may well be swayed by not wanting to elect a convicted felon.Wrathbone wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 9:19 pmI expect there will be a disappointing sentencing (i.e. no prison) followed by weeks or months of appeals, but at least it’s official now: he’s a convicted felon.
