I think the rhetoric is that "Islamists" (I'm repeating their language here, I'm not sure if this is more of a charged term than just using Muslim) are taking over Europe, and that this is some global conspiracy to conquer the West. It's easy to dismiss it as pure fear-mongering bullshit.

...but it's more than that, isn't it, because while America does have a very high opinion of itself that I find distasteful, they are undeniably a major player in world affairs, and the viewpoints of their leaders do actually matter with how they conduct their foreign policy. I can absolutely see Farage whispering in Trump's ear as another way of getting his agenda (or that of whoever may be holding his leash) into our Parliament chamber, because UK - US relations *are* important.

Not going to be easy for whoever replaces him (presumably Kamala Harris), but to paraphrase Gimli, it'll be a small chance of success rather than the certainty of defeat.

Good.* Now, can the Democrats please choose someone that is charismatic, able to call Trump out when he blatantly lies and doesn't have a glaring fault that he can seize on? As much as I utterly, utterly detest Trump, he's campaigning well, the Republicans are clearly united, and he has the "saved by the grace of god" thing going for him. I don't know enough about Kamala Harris to know if she's the obvious choice.

*I still feel unhappy that this was necessary; Biden has had, as far as I can tell, a fairly decent term as President.
