The paper straw thing seems like an absolute piss-take.

The lids are still plastic, but the bit that needs to survive a few minutes is paper?! Stupid idea. Why not make lids you can drink through without a straw at all, and make those from recyclable or biodegradable materials? It's such a nothing gesture changing only the straws, and deliberately choosing a terrible material just to really annoy everyone.

Oh don't get me wrong, I drink them purely out of necessity when it's before 6am and nowhere else is open. They're normally a solid 3.5/10 coffee, but the new lids really surpass themselves at bringing that down to a new low.

In a similar vein, I'm struggling to work out which of these idiotic ideas, if any, are just distraction tactics to hide all the truly heinous stuff going on in the White House at the moment. Surely the "Red, White and Blueland" bit is designed to spark arguments and get people roiled up about the wrong thing while they quietly replace all school teachers with chatbots or something.

I've no idea where he's getting that 25 planes at a time thing from, but the US aircraft carriers do have electromagnetic elevators rather than hydraulic or cable-based ones to take aircraft from the hanger deck to the launch deck. They can fit, at most, three aircraft on them.

It's just another example of an old man thinking that the old ways we've done things are best because they're well-developed technology. The whole idea of these things is that they have fewer moving parts, so require less maintenance and have fewer points of failure. Yes, they need research and a bit of trial and error to make operable in such a phenomenally complicated machine as a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, but the end result ought to be superior.

The man is just too old and too obstinate to lead a technologically advanced nation.
