D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
Are you both missing the x10 part or have I misunderstood? I got 70.
Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
What, you mean that little cross isn't a plus sign that's fallen to the side?
70 for me then

Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
That's broken Britain for you, even all the plus signs have fallen over.
Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
FYI I didn't have to go into London today (god bless rail strikes), so if people would prefer to start at the earlier 7pm slot I'm up for that.

Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
I think Dave said he preferred 8pm tonight, but if everyone’s happy for 7pm that’s fine with me.
EDIT - I guess we'll stick with 8pm then.

As a result of levelling up, I can now cut myself to turn my sword magical and light it on fire
I love D&D

Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
I forgot that I get my arcane tradition at level 2 and not level 3, so Dharnon is now a Bladesinger. Although, I haven't yet purchased a sword or light armour.
Felt good to be back playing again. Even with the added challenge of DMing I rather missed DnD over our hiatus so it's nice to be having sessions again in general. The group dynamic is already quite hilarious, can't wait to see where it goes.

Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
Yeah, that's the issue I think with level 1 not giving you access to your subclass. I doubt a great many parties stay at level 1 for very long, and you suddenly need to explain why, in some cases, you suddenly have quite a different playstyle. I figure it's to stop people multi-classing into an extra three classes and getting a whole load of goodies, but I know they're trying to change it for the next edition with more classes getting their speciality at level 1 (not to mention a free feat).
I probably ought to mention that Opus will naturally explore new locations looking for magic books, or items that might be a bit magical. He's not bouncing around the room like a child that's been given too many blue Smarties, he's just inquisitive and will want to examine things. I'm saying this not to get Pete to give a description for every book in a room when we move to a new location, more for expediency's sake so that I don't have to say it every time (maybe just get me to roll a perception check if there's something important?).
And a quick wizard thing just so I'm not disadvantaging myself; when I get the ability to prepare an extra spell, I don't automatically fill that slot if I add a new spell to my book, do I? I think I have one extra spell to prepare now as one of my first spells is a ritual, I don't get to immediately learn one of the new spells I got for levelling up without taking a rest first, correct?

Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
Going by rules as written, you add your two new spells to your spellbook when you level up, but you can only choose which spells to prepare on a long rest. Saying that, if you level up and the number of spells you can prepare increases, I’m happy for you to immediately prepare up to your new maximum. I’m fairly sure I did that with Korvak a couple of times without even thinking about it.Raid wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 10:41 pmAnd a quick wizard thing just so I'm not disadvantaging myself; when I get the ability to prepare an extra spell, I don't automatically fill that slot if I add a new spell to my book, do I? Also, just to clarify as it’s not necessarily clear, ritual spells don’t have to be prepared. Basically if you don’t prepare a ritual spell then you can only cast it as a ritual, but if you do prepare it then you can cast it either as a ritual or by expending a spell slot. It can be hugely beneficial to have some spells only as rituals to free up preparation space for other non-ritual spells.
Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
I think I'd actually mucked up by doing just that; I realised that I didn't need to have Find Familiar prepared a while back and forgot to replace it with something. I don't think I actually gained an extra Prepared slot for level 2.
Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
Does dndbeyond handle all of this under "Manage Spells"? I presumably don't have enough spells to have to choose which ones to prepare yet but I can only see learn/unlearn under this menu.Wrathbone wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 8:37 amGoing by rules as written, you add your two new spells to your spellbook when you level up, but you can only choose which spells to prepare on a long rest. Awesome first session by the way! I'll get to work on Pipkin's manuscript soon.
Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
Bards don't have to prepare spells in the same way that Wizards do. You just have access to every spell you know. The preparation thing is to balance Wizards because not only do we learn two new ones every time we level up, but we can copy spells that we find out in the world into our spellbooks for a cost.
There's a table here that shows you how many spells you'll know at a given level. You can swap out one Bard spell when you level up for something else, plus learn any additional spells if your "spells known" limit increases.

Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
Awesome thanks.
I was wondering whether I could get access to the little music player thing in Roll20 for when Farley uses his music... I'll promise not to abuse it too much?
EDIT: I don't actually know how it works, looks like you have to upload stuff to a playlist so I could just prepare some files to send over

Re: D&D Campaign 2: D&D Harder
Yeah, definitely! If you can send me some music files to upload then I'll create a Farley playlist.
