The Covid-19 Thread
Re: The Covid-19 thread
Religion is the root of all evil,
Followed closely by money,
And stupid people.
My new mantra.

Re: The Covid-19 thread
I'm kind of hopeful that this will make the whole of modern society pause and take stock a little of just how fragile things can be. Probably not though.
It's nice seeing empty streets with barely any cars, no contrails in the sky, animals migrating back into previously busy areas etc.
We would hurt China if people stopped being so consumer driven and simply stopped buying so much unnecessary junk from them. They're an economic powerhouse partly because they produce almost all the world's goods and I guarantee most people don't even really need half of what they buy.
The world needs to find an alternative to the model of constant economic growth at the expense of destroying everything around us.

You miss a key point in your logic.
People are the source of all those problems.
Hope you're all doing ok - I appreciate the updates here - i appreciate the insights from you who I've known for so long so much more than the crap and in the press.
I know some of you remain nervous or tense about the whole thing, but let's remember this is temporary. We're doing what we can to protect ourselves, our loved ones and neighbours.
We're enjoying what we can out here in our homes or localities. But all this will pass and eventually we'll get back to normality, or what passes for it in this day and age. For those of you who have been shafted by the utterly unprepared system - hold fast, we'll get through it. Again, i hope you're all coping ok.
Just keep pragmatic and be sensible - maybe we can pass that infection on to everyone!

If only! There seems to be a constant stream of traffic still ploughing on by my house. It's not even a main road.
My neighbour's kids (both under 10) are being real shits at the moment, which I suppose is understandable, but it's annoying as hell when I'm trying to concentrate and they're bellowing shite in the back garden all day.

Yep, times like this just bring out the worst in people across the whole political spectrum. Some of the despicable left-wing hate online revelling in the PM going into intensive care the other night just shows how they're all as bad as eachother when it comes down to it. The fringes of politicking is an absolute shower at both ends.
I'm so fed up with needless vitriol in general these days. It's like a portion of far left/far right commenters can only communicate in an extreme, militant manner.

switch it off mate - the majority of politicians don't pay attention to this shit anyway. If you find it upsetting don't seek it out

I'm with you Achtung because I've been guilty of it, the blood pressure hasn't coped I'll admit.
I went playing Doom Eternal tonight to get some angst out the system and I've never played it better as a result.

Re: The Covid-19 thread
This lockdown will put people and us in this forum under a lot of pressure - from work troubles to family cohesion etc etc. I read today that world wide poverty could be reversed in 30 years with an extra 0.5B people falling into poverty.
Mental stress is my biggest worry for some people. If you can find something new to get into. Mine has been art history. I am watching BBC4 documentaries on art, reading books on art and taking virtual tours of museums (which is brilliant by the way - the benefits of walking in a museum with no one around). If you are forced into a situation where you have time, I suggest finding something you always wanted to do (except travel !). Maybe get into new kinds of music, try a TV show you thought you never like, that sort of thing.
I am not into this "positive thinking" bollocks, but given we are all house prisoners, it is important not to lose yourself to wallow.
I am pretty sure within the year a vaccine will be found given the amount of research now being pumped into Covid-19,we just have to find our humanity before "normality" is resumed
anyway...this is good

One of the things I am thankful for is that I have woodland right next to my estate so I can do one exercise a day in relative calm. Only problem at the moment is its busier than normal because everyone's using it so I have to go off the beaten track a bit. Plus people are still driving to it which is idiotic. Still little things to look out for spot someone in the distance go the other way.

Re: The Covid-19 thread
same here. I live next to a wood area with a nice little pathway - I work from home anyway and I would go for my 1 hour constitutional all to myself. Now every fucker around here is walking, jogging, going out with their family. When I walk around the block I have to cross the round half a dozen times....because yeah I have to make room for them. To date I do not think anyone crossed the road for me. Anyway we all in this together.....
