I have the flu, fuck my life
Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
I've made a point of getting a flu jab the last two years, after getting so sick for Christmas Day the year before my xmas dinner consisted of a tablespoon of unseasoned mashed potato (which I paid a heavy price for). And for the last two years I've got through the winter without getting ill. I definitely recommend doing it, as getting the flu is shit.

Sorry to hear you've got the flu guys. Sometimes, if you're lucky, it can turn out to be not quite as bad as feared. I think it depends on the strain and your immune system.
I had my jab back in November. For some reason I get it for free where I am, so I get it without hesitation each year, but I read about a lot of people my age having to pay for it. I did have asthma when I was young, perhaps that's still in my records and qualifys me? I dunno.

Yeah if you've had any kind of asthma, it's free and priority and I get in as early as possible as a result.
Unfortunately my immune system has taken a beating recently so even that didn't help it would seem.

It's the worst feeling in the world. I ran to the bathroom this morning thinking I was going to vomit. Instead I got an intense rise in body temp, my hands went numb and I almost passed out. Scared the bejesus out of me. Felt better afterwards though. Just keep pumping the paracetamol into you.

Getting older sucks!
My lower back problem has evolved into an entire back problem over the last couple of months. And shoulders. And neck. Going to get tested next week for a certain muscular condition I may have, but I can't remember the name of it (it was long and hard to pronounce).
At least I've got a physio program lined up now, via NHS. My goal this year is to sort my upper body out, I've neglected it too long.

I have spondylolisthesis and Parr's inter-articularum syndrome. Took a while to memorise those
As I understand it from my consultant, on one of my vertebrae the transverse process has not formed, something that would have happened when I was still in the womb. What this means in physical terms is that the bit of the vertebra that limits the movement of that specific bone in line with the rest of the spine is missing, which allowed that vertebra (L5) to shift slighly out of alignment, which first herniated and then prolapsed the disc - pain the likes of which I have never felt, and this from a man who has broken both femurs at once.
It is a Edwin, not to put too fine a point on it. Am mostly fixed now but it can happen again, and each time it happens there will be less disc left so the impact will be worse and the 'cure' more surgically intensive. Suffice to say, horse-riding, mountain biking and other jarring pastimes are now off the list for me.
Hope yours is less shit and soon fixed!

Thanks Snowy. Yours sounds a lot more major, glad it's mostly better now.
Mornings are the worse for me right now. Getting up out of bed is currently composed of me swearing and grumbling a lot.

Haha I remember that well! Does it also involve careful movement of the body to sort of slide yourself out sideways without lifting any part of you from the support of the mattress.
Happy memories

Car accident - was in the back of a mini (old 70's one) that ended up 3 feet long bumper to bumper at it's shortest point.
Smarted a little...

As a man of 6" 5 in height, the very thought of that accident gives me shivers.

I'm 5'8 and I'm pretty sure if it happened to me I'd be squealing like a baby and begging them to drag me round the back and shoot me like a knacked racehorse...
