I really don't get the English obsession with Toryism. They've always categorically been worse performers under most metrics compared with Labour when it comes to running the country.

Hopefully they've done enough damage to the prospects of the last couple of generations that when the boomers finally pop their clogs the demographic will swing heavily away from them and that 30% base of the vote they get will dwindle. Best not get too hopeful though. Still, almost 30 ministerial resignations now, that has to be enough to sink him. It would be quite nice knowing that he had an 80 seat majority and managed to fuck it all up so badly that he didn't even last as long as Theresa May.

My only guess is that most people don't care enough about politics to actually pay attention, and the Tories have better PR because they're in the back pockets of news barons. The papers post speculative slander about the opposition, gloss over the Tory failures, and so they keep getting elected. It's really the only way I can prevent my worldview from being "most of the people in the UK are inherently awful".

I'm praying that Johnson sticks to his guns and calls a snap election instead of resigning. He's clearly willing to stay in power at all costs, his only principles involve looking after himself, and now that he's basically going to be putting cabinet positions up at the Job Centre, the only way forward he has is to prove himself re-electable.

It’s the same in America. Things like the metrics show dems are actually more fiscally responsible yet because the gop claim they are thee ones that are the fiscally responsible party people actually believe they are.

This Liaison Committee is superb, they're going straight for the jugular.

Christ, he really doesn't have any lines beyond that "We need to get on with what we were elected to do" does he? I tuned in to the committee meeting briefly and he must have said it 20 times rather than answering the question he was asked.

He's very reluctantly ruled out calling a snap election. Presumably there'll be one announced by the end of the week.

Edit: Bloody hell, Nadhim Zahawi is among the contingent marching into Number 10 calling for Johnson to go. Nadhim Zahawi. Who was installed as chancellor, by Johnson, just yesterday.

Utterly devoid of any sense of shame or responsibility. 38 resignations and he just thuds on, what an exasperating ego this clump has, diabolical.

"Bye-bye Boris" playing in the background of No. 10, he resolutely defies calls for resignation, but the nation's media is now camping on his doorstep....what an utter shambles this party have presented to the world in its pathetic tenure. It has destroyed our example of probity and good behaviour worldwide, a shuddering destruction no less.

Even Patel is calling for him to fuck away off (her words ¬_¬) now....what a disgraceful farce.

I can't believe he's sacked Gove. As much as I loathe Gove, at least he had the decency to advise the PM to resign face-to-face before saying as much to the press. And given that the likes of Patel and Schapps have now turned on BJ, only sacking Gove and not them comes across as sheer malice built up over years. He even called Gove a snake! Which he is, but still... keeping up appearances and all that.

It's hit me right in the funny bone, this one. Man down.

The BBC are reporting that Johnson's agreed to resign (staying in place until autumn). Darn.
