Aaand, In Other News...
Re: Aaand, In Other News...
I suspect you don't need my above-average level of knowledge on this subject to know that "plane hitting plane is bad". The Reaper has a cruise speed that can't be much higher than an SU-27's stall speed, so I'd guess he's closing at something substantially faster than that. The idiot could have wrecked his plane and killed himself doing something like that had the collision been anything more than a glancing blow. Surely it makes no difference how you down an aircraft if it's done so blatantly deliberately; just shoot the thing rather than risk your pilots lives.

Holy fucking spare ribs! This is a big deal, most average dairy farms here are 200 head + followers, this is a massive catastrophe:

Eighteen thousand cows?! I can't even fathom how you can have eighteen thousand cows in one combustible location yet only have 60 human staff to milk them. Surely just the space you'd need to have them indoors would put Amazon fulfilment centres to shame.
Re: Aaand, In Other News...
It is diabolical. They will be permanently indoors on that scale, with robotic feed, bedding, mucking out and milking parlours, so the 60 workers would be doable to a degree. It is Texas, with that shadow human Abbot as governor, so god knows what deregulation is involved. I just cannot fathom how humanity has gotten to this kind of conveyor belt husbandry, it is so out of touch with nature and indeed with the animals themselves.

And that's the saddest thing about this. There's no mention of this being the world's largest dairy farm or anything of the sort, so I assume facilities of this size are a standard practice, at least in an industrialised society on the scale of the USA. Of course they'd have to be permanently indoors; there's no way you could have sufficient land to graze 18,000 cattle without entire air forces worth of helicopters to get them to and from the milking parlour.
Re: Aaand, In Other News...
Yet another reason I'm vegetarian for 31 years and counting. Oh, you should see the outdoor cows - as far as the eye can see, cows cows cows. And the stench is overwhelming. I learned long ago, when driving back and forth across this country, to have an N-95 mask handy for those parts of Texas and California that have cattle pens.

Future generations are going to look at us as fucking monsters by the way we treat animals.
Re: Aaand, In Other News...
A cow is one livestock unit, so needs an acre of ground, so yes at that scale rotational grazing couldn't be efficient, so 'zero grazing' is employed, i.e. grass grown as a crop and harvested straight to feed. It is efficient because you do not have the spoilage from manure, trampling and traffic that you get from grazing, so more of the sward is fed. Animals indoors will have a high level of care, else yields would be heavily impacted, but there is a soullessness of keeping animals solely for production without having a "natural" wander environment.

I can't get over the idea of Thug Shaker Central Discord. It's just so stupid.Teixeira is believed to have been the leader of an online chat group where hundreds of photographs of secret and top secret documents were first uploaded, from late last year to March. The online group called itself Thug Shaker Central, made up of 20 to 30 young men and teenagers brought together by an enthusiasm for guns, military gear and video games. Racist language was a common feature of the group.
