The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
Adverts that try to sell a mass produced product by stressing how important individuality is.
It seems to be happening a lot with alcohol advertising at the moment; "Drink Tia Maria because of how unique you are, just like the million other people who drink it!" Now I appreciate I'm a fairly cynical person, but to me it just sounds entirely disingenuous. And while we're on advertising...
Perfume adverts.
I fucking hate perfume adverts - they're just the most pretentious of advertising, and they seem to dominate the run up to christmas. Don't get me wrong, I understand that fragrance isn't something that's easy to demonstrate on television, but c'mon, there has to be some way to make a vague description of what the product is actually like, surely. Johnny Depp running away and burying his jewelry does not convey the fact that Sauvage smells a bit spicy with a bit of citrus (I had to look that up on a website that actually describes the stuff).

Can I just riff with this slightly and throw cheap artwork and inspirational words under the same fucking bus? All the shithole houses in the world cramed with shit wicker hearts, Home <3 and the ever wonderful Live, Love, Laugh artwork like it's bespoke and unique to them.Raid wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 6:28 pmAdverts that try to sell a mass produced product by stressing how important individuality is.

No, tawdry fucking shit, fit for burning, which it would, extremely quickly give a slight spark.

Does anyone else just generally have a constant feeling of despair when they check in with the real world nowadays? You literally cannot read the news without there being some sort of scandal or doom and gloom. Between the corruption and utter failures over Covid, the head in the sand attitude to Brexit and the nasty xenophobia constantly being given a platform.
It just feels utterly hopeless, and the worst thing is that I think Britain may have always been like this, rotten at its core, it's just that the string of right wing populism has made it more prevalent and acceptable to be in the public eye. It's like half the country actually miss Victorian times, they'd happily pay the price of making us a poorly educated, ignorant little backwards backwater where our 'betters' in the ruling class throw us scraps of bread; just so long as we keep our towns and villages white.

The sight of this on someone’s wall makes me recoil. I guess it’s meant to serve as a reminder of what’s important? As though without it their defaults would be Die, Hate, Scowl?
These are the sort of people who need warnings telling them that the coffee they’ve just bought may contain hot liquid.

I'd go one further and say people who get "inspiring" song lyrics or quotes tattooed on them are probably retarded.

We seem to be in a neverending cycle of moralising platitudes that get passed around, latched onto, repeated. I guess with the advent of social media, that's the modern world now?
Whether it's Hollywood celebs lecturing us to recycle and think of the planet, even though they fly around on private jets each week and have the carbon footprint of a small nation, or just regular people you know sending out inspirational messages about thinking of others who are less fortunate (when you know for a fact that individual is a borderline sociopath & doesn't really give a shit about any of that stuff in the real world and just want to be seen in a certain light).
I sometimes wonder if I'm inherently cynical for seeing through all of it.

I'd like to put humans in 101.
Sitting at roadworks yesterday for maybe 40-60seconds and I watched probably 15 people walk past a old homeless lady and not even acknowledge her existence as she holds up her cup to them. I mean how a hard is it to just say "Hi, sorry I've not got any change" at the very least instead of **STARE STRAIGHT AHEAD, EYE CONTACT WILL INFECT ME WITH THEIR HOMELESSNESS**. Then youre asking yourself the question if she was white would they have gave her any kind of human reaction? I mean fuck sake, we're Scottish, we're supposed to be known for being big friendly bastards!
I'm not trying to put myself up for any mother Teresa awards or anything but even though I'm not that flush with cash generally but I always try to at least say something to them or when I can give them something or sometimes pick up something for them when I'm in the shop, cheap sannie or something. I gave a guy my brolly a few weeks ago when it was pissing down - it was a half broken cheapest of the cheap thing but he was so thankful for it, probably more so for just being seen. I know sometimes you'll give to one or two and theres another 5 you ended up waking past but basic human interactions don't cost fuck all - and I'm shit at conversation/socialising. Theres a young chap that sits on the west side of glasgow and the first time I seen him I'm ashamed to say I thought he was a student trying to get some drink money or something. He was clean cut and had a kind of cool haircut that was short round the sides and curly and high on top. Well I've seen him for the past year and now hes way more bedraggled looking and every time I see him I'm reminded I'm a Edwin for pre-judging him. So yeah I'm definitely not perfect or anything but still....
I would love to win the lottery and just try and help folks. Look at these rich fucks like Bezos that just horde their cash and do sweet fuck all with it. He could invest 150billion into good causes and not even feel it. 150 BILLION! He could give every homeless person in the UK half a million each and not feel it but the fucking fuck does fuck all. Yes I am aware throwing money at people isnt just an autofix but in simplification terms fuck rich hoarding microdicked (or massive vagina'd but its mostly men) rich folk.
tldr;
Humans are fucking fuckers >_<

I've been doing a fair bit of house hunting on Rightmove over the last few months, and it's amazing how many of these I've seen. I'm not a fan myself, they just seem a bit forced, like telling someone that's unhappy to cheer up.arqueturus wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 11:13 amCan I just riff with this slightly and throw cheap artwork and inspirational words under the same fucking bus? This is going to make me sound like a total c**t but I think it's people with very shallow, insiginificant lives searching for depth and significance without actually knowing what that *really* is. Basically, modern life is 90% rubbish for 95% of people. I'm not saying my life is deep and fulfilled but I understand that happy sounding words do not make a thing true.Raid wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 1:37 pmI've been doing a fair bit of house hunting on Rightmove over the last few months, and it's amazing how many of these I've seen. I'd like to throw in the current spate of people using asterisks instead of the god damn formatting that this forum supports.
You know who you are.

Putting this here because a) PayPal can fuck off and b) might save someone's bacon on the forum.

How the fuck is that legal? Surely it would have to be implicit in the T&Cs that they can levy charges on your payment methods without your approval (which would see account closures in droves I suspect) and if the accounts are inactive, any changes to the T&Cs would not be applicable as the user had not agreed.
EDIT: Just to stay current too...
Perfume ads can boil in acid. Every time I see a sepia-toned vacant looking twat/twatess doing something meaningless on the telly at this time of year I snarl...
Lyrics as tattoos is a good visual warning not to engage someone in conversation as they are clearly not quite there.
Inspirational messages on posters on online can get fucked.
As Slipknot said, people definitely do = shit (where is the tattoo artist? ). My company has its head office in London's financial district and while walking there a year or two ago with colleagues I saw a homeless guy with a dog. Having no change I gave him a fiver and asked him to get something for the dog as well as himself. He was clearly delighted, as far as I had seen I was the only one of the hundreds/thousands walking by to even acknowledge him, most way better off than I am. I am no rockefeller and couldn't just wander through London scattering banknotes but a fiver isn't much to me but clearly was to him. Why don't people who can afford it help those who need it? I can't think of a better way to make me feel good about myself than helping someone else but it seems that isn't the norm.
