Shit’s about to get real. :o
You run to Neverember’s office and smash down the door. Neverember is furious, but you interrupt him and demand to know why Galveney’s will left everything to the Council rather than Lady Tanye since they were about to marry. Jeff floats about the room impatiently, ready to fly off the handle. Neverember sits down, his face grim. He offers you 500 gold each to leave immediately and never ask about it again. Do you:

A - Accept, and assume that there really wasn’t anything untoward going on.
B - Refuse and arrest Neverember. This goes beyond bribes!
Slythe has a (brief, infinitesimally so) pang of conscience, before feigning reluctance and pocketing the gold. If Jeff shows any objection to this apparent volte face, I try to convince him by explaining it can be used to purchase an obscene amount of cheese.

Which is to say, A :)

You take the money and leave. A moment later you wonder aloud if things could have gone any differently, if justice could have been served. “Forget it,” says Jeff as he floats away, “It’s Neverwinter.”

The next day you search the mansion but Jeff is gone. He hadn’t planned to depart north just yet, and he’d been troubled about how things were left with Neverember. By the front doors you notice a cheese crumb trail, which you follow through the streets to the alleyway behind the Dolphin, where Jeff is hovering menacingly over a shady-looking lowlife. “The name!” he growls, spraying cheese remnants over the thug, who insists that he’ll be killed if he tells. Do you:

A - Convince Jeff to float away and abandon the case. Neverember paid you, after all.
B - Allow Jeff to squeeze whatever information he needs from the man.

Pausing momentarily to wonder where Jeff had discovered this latest lead and whether he might be harassing a random and entirely innocent civilian, Slythe suddenly realises that sounds like a bit of a lark, a thought followed picoseconds later by another that simply reads: "threats = gold??"

You fold your arms and lean against the alley wall, content to allow your unrehearsed bad cop / bad cop routine to proceed. Jeff fires an eye beam dangerously close to the lowlife's head. "The executor!" yells Jeff, "Spill the beans or I'll make sure you've got ZERO days 'till retirement, you grotty little wretch!" Abashed by Jeff's foul language and ill temper, you expect the worse, but then the stunted grotbag squeals: "Okay stop! It was me, right? I was the executor of the will."

The man, Simmy the Snake, explains that Neverember and Lady Tanye were in cahoots. The plan was for them to sell the mansion and all Galveney's valuables, and they paid Simmy to execute the will to their wishes, but Simmy screwed up and the heat got too close. They managed to claim the valuables but couldn't sell the mansion. You tell Simmy to slither back to whatever hole he came from and evaluate your options. This really does go all the way to the top. Do you:

A - Decide that General Sabine has to hear this news. You head to Sabine while Jeff takes care of business with Neverember.
B - Decide that General Sabine has to hear this news. Insist that Jeff comes with you to tell Sabine.
C - Walk away before you get in over your head.

As amusing as it would be to send Jeff to see Neverember on his own, he is an almost literal loose cannon. Realising the potential severity of the situation, and fighting down his natural chaotic tendencies, Slythe decides the pair of them should stick together.

As an aside, going with A would have had drastic consequences.
You head with Jeff to find Sabine and tell her everything of importance, leaving out certain dubious details for your own protection. She does not take the news well and dismisses you, giving you assurances that things will be dealt with appropriately. Do you:

A - Trust her to do the right thing.
B - Take matters into your own hands by staging a night raid where you abduct Neverember and lock him in a secret room in your basement until you decide what should be done with him.

Is it likely that Sage and Charr would notice the lord of the city being dragged onto their estate and locked in the basement? -_-

Not impossible, but for the purposes of the mini-adventure this would be a secret operation between Slythe and Jeff.

Welp... let's see what happens.
That night, you sneak into the Hall of Justice and head to the cells, but Neverember is nowhere to be found. Apparently your instincts about Sabine’s unbreakable loyalty to him were correct. You sneak into his chambers instead, and find him asleep. On his bedside you spy an interesting looking book called the Manual of Quickness of Action, which you pilfer. You then ensure Neverember is rendered unconscious for a good while and bundle him into a sack and sneak through the sewers back to your mansion, where you toss him in the secret cell in the basement. While you’re quite certain that nobody will find Neverember here, even with a thorough search, you ponder with Jeff what to do with him in the long term. “That,” says Jeff, “is a problem for another day.”

That night, you read the book you stole. You become engrossed in it, and by the time you've finished it you realise it's nearly noon. As you stand, you feel lighter on your feet and even nimbler of finger. Your dexterity increases by 2.
And that concludes the mini-adventure. Congratulations, you now have one Lord Neverember locked away in your basement! It's up to you whether you want to attempt to explain the situation to Sage and Charr. I should point out that there was an option which would have resulted in Jeff incinerating Neverember, so all in all I'd say it went well.

I have to be honest, that went better than I'd hoped

It will be interesting to see what the political fallout is from this!

Any preference on days next week to pick this back up? I can't do tomorrow, otherwise I'll be free here in the apocalypse bunker.

Every day is literally like any other for us at the moment, so whenever is good for everyone else will no doubt be good for me too.

I can't do Wednesday this week, but any other day should be fine.
