The party gathers at the stairway to the tunnel complex beneath the Old City, an abandoned area shunned by the populace and walled off from the rest of the newer-built areas since the time of the Dark Plague. Nobody lives there now, except social outcasts and other undesirables. A perfect place for a gang of orcs to set up home....

Heroes, it is time to roll a die each. Let's say a d20. Highest score becomes the Leader of the party. Once you have a Leader, you should assemble yourselves on the staircase below...

18! For what it's worth, I think I should be in the front rank.

Mantis can decide that if he rolls a 19 or 20. ¬_¬

As the only wizard in the party I think I'm going to be backline whatever happens. Is Maturin's warrior's stats more suited to backline play? I haven't done a massive comparison between the character sheets truthfully.

All three of the warriors in the party are all fairly capable of handling themselves. All of them are above-average in melee skill and all have some kind of armour, though none of them are exceptionally strong (i.e. has the ability to deal a lot of damage). Mantis' Dwarf, Bellis, is slightly better than the other two at fighting, so more likely to land a blow in a fight, but Maturin's Elf, Terence, is slightly stronger than anyone else, thus can deal a bit more damage with his sword if he hits. Gibby's Human, Gibnar and Bellis are equally Tough, though in Gibnar's case that is because he is wearing the most armour. Bellis is naturally tougher, being a Dwarf, with only a shield for protection. The Dwarf is also the only member of the party with a reasonable chance of hitting anything at a distance (he has a bow and by far the best ranged combat stats). The Wizard is very squishy indeed, and will need to hide behind the other guys if he hopes to survive. ¬_¬

I'll happily take a front row spot, assuming our leader in waiting Gibby is happy for me to do so.

Although the back row isn't necessarily the safest place to be. I know how the game throws wandering monsters at you from behind sometimes. ¬_¬

Can I go in the middle then? :P

The wizard filling in a warrior sandwich? Terence would be up for that, but i'm not sure what the others will say.

Hmm, good point about the enemies appearing behind us. Well, a tough fighter in each rank should do. I fear our damage output is limited, but once I get a sword, by the maker I shall slay evil mightily!

...I hope

I rolled a 19!

I've also been locked in a room without being allowed to leave for 9 hours at work, so sorry for my late activity.

This sounds intriguing; tell us more!

I knew it! Looks like Bellis Stormmail is the leader of the company! It's the blue hood that did it; very Thorin Oakenshield.

So, Bellis, tell me where you want yourself and your companions to be arranged on the staircase.

Could we have a grid system to make it easier to refer to squares on the map in future? Would be handy!

For now, I will stand four squares in from the stairs, Sly can stand one square directly in front of me further on; and Gibnar and Terence can lead the way walking abreast one square further on down the corridor towards the exit arrows.
