I think he would have won it comfortably if it'd been down to a vote between him and Sunak by the party membership. Regardless of whatever nonsense he comes out with for his reason for not standing, I think it's clear that he couldn't get the support of 100 MPs to make it onto the ballot. He didn't rush back from his holiday for no reason only to announce he wasn't standing two days later.

Sunak will be the next PM. Mordant just hasn't got any momentum or tangible support. Johnson never had the 100 votes he was proclaimed to have, also he has the weight of the Privileges Committee investigation hovering over his head, which makes him a poisoned choice. Still, the drama is more prominent in society's conscience than accountability, it stinks.

The party would never let Johnson have the top seat again after an extremely public kicking him out of it just a few months back.
As much as I'd like to believe that even the Tories wouldn't be that brazen, I don't. They let him get away for months on end with multiple debacles that any other PM would have shamefully resigned from. They put Liz Truss in power despite the public perception that she was useless (which was proven correct). They brought British political corruption to an all-time high, hardly bothering to cover their tracks because they knew they'd get away with it.

Bringing Boris Johnson back as PM would be scandalous in the public perception, reckless for the economy and with any other person would never have been given credence. I have no doubt that the party would have leapt at the chance.
100% true - if the cadre of cunts that makes up the Conservative voters had their way Johnson would be back in in a heartbeat. I am not sure why anyone would ever back someone so obviously incompetent and corrupt, but that just says all we need to know about the fucking tories...

So with that out of the way, what do we have to worry about with this one?

He wants to bin university degrees that don’t lead to high salaries, which is one of the most fundamentally dumb and short-sighted political stances I’ve ever seen.

He’s also talked about redefining extremism to include people who hold strong anti-British sentiments, which is vague enough to set a very dangerous benchmark.

It's going to be interesting to see how this pans out because he has essentially got in on four days of campaigning with no policy platform or meeting the public at all. The MPs wanted him beforehand but left it down to the disastrous membership vote who went with Truss and this time they've been circumvented entirely. They've basically pushed the panic button and installed their last hope of salvaging the party. There will be a sizable minority who really won't be down for supporting him because they were completely ignored and I think that will play out further among the general electorate.

I've already seen a clip of an LBC call with a man who claimed that Rishi wasn't even "properly British". The racist right wing side of the Conservative party is pretty big since they basically absorbed UKIP.

The cost of living crisis isn't going to get any better for a long time either. Any poll bump he gets for not being as utterly inept as Truss might be short lived when the cold sets in.

I heard Sunak on the radio this morning with a plan to try and create a cabinet of competent ministers with a focus on serving the public instead of their own interests. I think it's infuriating that he can take that as a sound byte knowing it's what people want to hear after he was a part of party Johnson's party-gate Klepto-cabinet. It's a sad state of affairs that he can run on a mandate of a government that actually governs for a change and hope to win.

Someone asked him if the Tories should reach an agreement and have candidates drop out to avoid another long-winded leadership contest and his response was essentially that tory party members want their say and deserve to get their vote. What about the 98% of the voting population who want an election?

The guy's an absolute top drawer bellend. Probably one for the aspirational red wall traitor tories, but I can't see him being a hit with minority voters automatically just because he's an Asian PM.

Utterly unbelievable wasn't it?

Fucking. Hell.

You can tell that's going to be bad early on when the massive racist claims that he knows the voting intention of 80% of the party he's a member of, but that goes places. These people genuinely don't understand that they're the racists, do they? They think they have a legitimate reason for disliking people without white skin, not like those horrible racists that only hate people because their skin isn't white.

I am *so* fucking glad he's stuck with Rishi Sunak. There isn't a single part of this process that has amused me more than Jerry from Lowestoft having an asian man as his political party leader. The rest of us are stuck with him, I'm just glad he's also making Tories as miserable as the rest of us.

If anything it will show that it doesn't matter what gender or the colour of your skin is, your still a useless Tory Edwin at the end of the day. The last few years has proved that at least.

Well he described Sunak as... as.... a socialist. The worst insult a Tory can use.
