Re: George Floyd - US in meltdown
that was pretty compelling reading. Not sure how much that applies to the UK police but yeah if it can be avoided, don't engage with the police

Re: George Floyd - US in meltdown
I worked with the police around our way for a time and I'm happy to report no signs of anything that is untowards. Not saying it's not there behind the scenes but luckily I've never had any trouble.
This may be why historically I've never understood the whole fuck the police thing but I feel its been laid bare in front of me now.

Great perspective on where the embedded attitudes come from:

He was running, that was partly the problem.Achtung Englander wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 10:08 pmSo another black man was shot in the back. What is wrong with the US police. Fucking run you knobheads
Not that it warranted getting shot dead, but yer man wasn't going quietly if that's what you thought.

Re: George Floyd - US in meltdown
It’s a hard one though he wasn’t just running. He took the officers taser and when he
shot him he was swinging the taser up to presumably shoot. Even though it was a taser it surely passed through the cops mind that it could have been a gun. Clearly didn’t deserve to be killed but does the cop deserve to be lumped in with Chauvin?
Also, who the fuck phones the police if someone dozes of in their car at a drive through? Chap the guys window for fucks sake!

Re: George Floyd - US in meltdown
I read and saw the merits of the case. The guy was being arrested for being asleep drunk. I mean seriously wtf. How do they know he was going to drive. He might have phoned a friend to pick him up. They made a presumption he was going to drive. Also the cop knew it was a tasser and he was not threatened with his life. He just could not be bothered to run. That is the truth

Being drunk in your car with the keys to the car in the UK automatically gets you booked, would that not be the same in America?

Correct call. If that was the UK the copper would have given chase. Going for the gun as a 1st option is a joke.

No doubt the police unions will be outraged that their free license to murder is under scrutiny.

That Google Doc is still being updated.
Anyway a handy little slideshow of passively helping out the movement.

Fair enough I suppose. I kind of think movies should have more things like this, trigger warnings for example. It would be nice if you could easily check if there would be animal abuse, rape, child abuse etc.. so maybe this is a good start.

Re: George Floyd - US in meltdown
Almost seems comical that would even be a thing in a sci-fi romp largely about murderous aliens, but fair play for pointing them out. I can't actually think of what they might be referencing that is outdated and potentially offensive, but then it's been a long time since I've seen the movie.
Either way, this is a far better way of dealing with the issue than just blanket banning old media and removing it from streaming services. We gain nothing from pretending that these things didn't exist.

Yeah, I can't think of what they'll be referring to, but I don't know Aliens back to front.
I think that's the ideal way to do content advisories. We can't just stop showing anything produced before 2010, though I don't have an issue with particularly egregious examples (think some of Disney's older stuff; Song of the South, a few bits from Fantasia and Peter Pan for example) being taken off air. I don't think there's a neat, blanket solution to dealing with this.
