Merge the PC Gaming and Console folders? Poll inside

Post by Mantis » Tue Jun 23, 2020 10:55 am

As suggested in the feedback thread, I know a few have expressed their opinions on this before but I just want to establish a general consensus now that we're a few years down the road and the forum is a lot quieter than our heyday.

The results won't automatically decide the outcome but will contribute significantly to the decision.

The way the voting is going I suspect its contribution will in fact be less than significant

From an organisational point of view there are multi platforms in the PC folder and in the console folder when they should be in general gaming. I’d merge them all and maybe do a sub folder like the blogs that has one thread for each platform but no ability to create a new thread?

I dunno!

A sub folder with one thread for each platform? I'm not sure I follow how you mean.

Incidentally, looks like the will of the people could lean dangerously close to a 52%/48% split. Which would obviously make the decision entirely conclusive in favour of that overwhelming majority.

Does anyone else think maybe it is time this poll was respected? The last three posts in the console folder were in Sept, August and June respectively, with a fourth made almost a year ago. It kind of feels like a dormant space at this point that nobody really ventures in compared to every other folder on here.

Thoughts?

I agree. There’s not really console games anymore, almost everything that’s not Nintendo is going multiplat so it’s mostly pointless.

Yeah, I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other, but I can see how it would make sense to merge them.

It sorta feels like we've done this already in a manner of speaking. Ostensibly console-focused games that launch on PC are being stuck in the PC folder anyway (Horizon, Spider-Man, Dead Space as recent examples).

I was in favour of it back when this poll was published, I still am.

Eh, I have zero interest in console gaming so I'm happy that the PC stuff I actually read is kept separate.

I too have zero interest in consoles but don't see how merging would be a problem as there is so little in the console folder anyway. I say try it and see if it becomes annoying.

I think at this point there are so few active console threads in that folder that merging the two won't be much of a distraction or annoyance to those who aren't interested in console chat.

No idea if I voted or not, but I vote yes (again, maybe).

I don't mind either way, I never really go in the console folder.

Well the Technology and Sport folders are even less used so do they get folded in as well? I'm a console peasant but I don't mind if the folder stays or gets merged into a general gaming folder.
