I’m just glad that picking Dominate Person as a spell wasn’t entirely futile.
Korvak is an absolute shithouse, now I know how Renwick felt in his final moments

Yeah I hope that course of action didn't upset anyone, it was perfectly in character for Murrik so I had to give it a try. It was worth it to see Arctis talking to Waffles.

It's been an absolutely amazing campaign, many thanks to Dave for all the hard work putting it all together and for everyone being so engaged with it, I've really enjoyed playing with this group. Looking forward to the epilogue next week.

We've got experience with doing this; Dave and I used it against one another in our last campaign when he tried to murder Charr's Wish babies, and I wanted to glue one of the babies to the side of Sage's face. You don't need any additional context for that statement.

Quite the opposite - it's one of my campaign highlights.

It really has been a cracking campaign, and as much as I enjoy DMing, it's been great to get a chance to be a player and no longer be a Forever DM.

You also used your final action in the campaign to cast Wish and usurp the leadership of Neverwinter, right in the middle of the council election.

What can I say; I'm a sucker for dramatic last-minute timing.

Yeah, this has been an amazing campaign. I know we've made more of it than what was initially planned; last night's was session 28, and half of them have been three hours long, and looking back at the first post Dave was expecting 8-20 and we were originally doing two hours a session, but it's never felt dragged out and I don't remember any real instances of us dawdling. I'll have to have a think about the highlights; at least this time I've made notes so I can go back and pick some out!

The 8-20 estimate was more a case of me hopelessly underestimating how much content I'd actually prepped because I haven't run a campaign this long before moreso than you guys dragging anything out.

If I'd just stuck to the heist we'd probably have done in that timeframe but when I was putting the concept for the city together I started to get carried away with "what if the heist is a double cross", "what if there is a more nefarious subplot running through the city", "I can't not include devil's somehow!", "Everyone needs side plots!" Etc etc.

Renwick was actually introduced in my last one shot I ran at Christmas a couple of years ago. The group met him on a ferry to Kringlewood and he was trying to convince them to come visit his casino.

But yes, next session will be the wrap up epilogue and then Q&A/summary out of character so have a think what your highlights are and if there's any outstanding stuff you're curious about that we never delved into for whatever reason and we'll use the last half of the session to have a chat about it all.

Incidentally, thanks everyone for being so onboard with this and indulging my gratuitous world building when I enticed everyone in with a basic heist concept and then threw you into a good twenty sessions nearly before you even started to rob the place. It's been good fun to DM.

As I mentioned, this setting is the basis for every DnD game I'm ever planning on running. So quite a ways down the line we have the option of picking up where your current characters leave off or starting a brand new campaign. So have a think for next week whether you want to park them for a campaign one day where we pick up right after the events of the current one or would rather let them ride off into the sunset with an epilogue of what you think they would like to do next and I can bake them into the world history then.

Thanks for running it! It's been a lot of fun and gone to a lot of unexpected places! I've also enjoyed playing a completely different kind of character this time around, and I've grown quite fond of Gronk (and Waffles), so good to hear there may be more to come from them one day :)

That's kinda my problem with deciding what to do with Arctiss; he was only ever designed for a short game (I wasn't expecting us to be levelling up more than once or twice), and suffice to say his build isn't exactly optimal, but I've grown quite attached to him. Granted, with the way his arc in this campaign could end, there'd be an in-character way to maybe swap out his warlock stuff for something else to make him more suited to a longer campaign, but frankly the Ranger stuff isn't all that thrilling to begin with. Almost all of the fun little features and re-rolls I've had access to have come from the Warlock side, but his stats are Ranger-focused (because it suited his backstory of acquiring the Warlock stuff relatively recently). I suppose there's every chance that 6th Edition would be available by the time we got to a new campaign, and it's pretty clear that WotC are wanting to give the class a significant rework (they're getting cantrips, prepare spells like wizards do and Hunter's Mark is losing the concentration requirement etc.) so he could be a lot more viable.

There's also going to be a significant enough gap between now and then that I really don't mind giving people the option of changing their characters around a little to suit a more fun playstyle. Who knows how long Pete's new campaign will run for. The important element that you may want to preserve for the future will be the story of your character, I'm not as concerned about class features or stats being swapped around a little. It's harder to thematically fit a class change in with the other characters, but in Arctiss' case we could quite easily explain him trading in all of his Ranger levels and going full Warlock.

Of course, maybe the Ranger will be a good class by then, you never know.

Yep - I'll need to go by about 21.30 as I've got an early train to catch tomorrow.

It feels appropriate to be finishing this today, the day of the (presumed) last session, given that I started learning to draw at about the same time as I started playing this character, but this is how I've been imagining Arctiss:

Image

He's pretty drab when it comes to outfit choices - no need to spend money on fancy-looking armour when you're a lone dungeon diver after all. Part of the reason he's so tall is that I thought it'd be fun if Dragonborn retained the dragon-esque long neck (he's craning his head forward and to the side to aim here), which necessitated the high-collared pauldrons for better protection. I went with an archer's pose because it's what he's most comfortable with; he'd normally have only used a sword defensively until he picked up the Blade of Stryrox, which compels him to close the distance somewhat.

This is literally the very first fully-rendered humanoid character I've ever drawn so it probably looks awkward as hell. Could I have gone with a more neutral pose and a character that I didn't have to invent some of the anatomy for? Sure, but that would have been boring.

Is he staggering around in a fog of confusion having rolled a 1?
